The Role:

The Peer Support Program Supervisor supports peer-delivered services for adults and young adults with mental health challenges or exceptional mental health experiences. The supervisor will be able to draw from their own personal experiences of mental health or life struggles as a way to connect deeply and authentically with community members. This position will supervise 3–5 team members and ensure the delivery of meaningful peer support in a variety of community settings.

Location: 50 South Willard St., Burlington, VT (frequently working in community spaces)

Schedule: Full-Time (9am – 5pm Mon – Fri, 35–40 hours per week) Occasional responsibilities outside these hours will be expected, including a couple of weekend days annually.

Supervised by: Peer Support Programs Team Lead

Supervising: 3–5 staff

Responsibilities:

• Provide peer support to young adults and adults in Chittenden County who are experiencing mental health challenges, homelessness, or other exceptional experiences:

• Fostering community and connection with community and staff members.

• Engage in peer support, connection, and resource referral in both individualized and group settings when appropriate.

• Meet community members where they are—whether in shelters, public spaces, or other community locations.

• Connect with and serve as a liaison to relevant community partners.

• Lead and participate in staff meetings, co-reflection, and individual supervisions.

• Collection and evaluation of data and regular reporting.

• Coordinate and oversee peer support groups:

• Support facilitators to ensure best practices and quality facilitation.

• Monitor participation and community feedback.

• Ensure groups offered best meet community needs and wants.

• Assist in creating outreach materials such as flyers, posters, stickers, and brochures.

• Attend bi-monthly supervisor’s meetings, monthly all-staff meetings, bi-annual incident review, required training, and bi-annual all-staff retreats.

• Supervise 3–5 staff members with compassion and clarity.

• Other duties as assigned.

• Attendance at the annual All Staff and Programmatic Retreats is an expectation of employment with Pathways Vermont, unless excused by the employee’s manager/HR. Retreats are held on workdays, during normal working hours, and are fully paid.

Requirements:

• Integrity, credibility, and commitment to Pathways’ mission.

• Willingness and ability to connect with others from a peer perspective around mental health, homelessness, or other significant life challenges.

• Group facilitation experience preferred.

• Supervisory experience preferred.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to network and establish partnerships.

• Ability to work independently and accurately collect and track data.

• Smartphone and computer skills as well as familiarity with Google Suite.

• Trained in Intentional Peer Support Training (or commitment to be trained within 6 months of hiring).

• Potential flexibility in hours as determined by program needs assessment.

• Patience, creativity, flexibility, compassion.

• Commitment to excellent services, racial and economic justice, and serving diverse populations including LGBTQ+, persons with disabilities, individuals who have experienced trauma, and persons who have been oppressed.

• Valid driver’s license (please note certain driving violations or DMV records may disqualify you from this position) and ability to drive a minivan.

• Personal experience of homelessness, mental health, extreme states, or other life challenges considered an asset.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

• Frequent operation of a computer and other office machinery.

• Regular typing and/or writing, grasping paperwork, using technology equipment and other tasks. Frequent talking and participation in exchanging ideas through spoken word as well as ability to hear and receive detailed information through oral communication.

• Ability to ascend and descend stairs may be required

• Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, standing and lifting of arms to participate in cleaning, space organization and event preparation and tear-down

• Often meeting with persons in the community and/or visiting different businesses

• Walking around the community to participate in activities and connect with service recipients Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds (i.e. carrying equipment or materials for activities, outreach)

• Frequent exposure to outside environmental conditions in community outreach and visits

• Frequent utilization of close visual acuity and reading from a computer screen, must be able to read information captured in type and free hand form.

Compensation:

• Full-Time Non exempt position

• $23-25/hour starting
