Objective of Role: The Restorative Justice Coordinator at GOSO is responsible for designing, facilitating, and sustaining a restorative justice framework within the organization’s community space. This role centers on creating safe, structured environments where justice-involved youth and young adults (ages 16–24) can process experiences, build accountability, repair harm, and develop their voices.

Working under the guidance of a Restorative Justice Consultant, the Coordinator brings deep expertise in restorative practices and plays a leadership role in embedding these principles across all program areas. The Coordinator is responsible not only for direct facilitation, but also for strengthening staff understanding and buy-in of the restorative justice framework.

This role leads restorative circles, mediates conflicts, and supports de-escalation efforts across the program. A key component of this position is the development and leadership of a Junior Circle Keeper Cohort, an 8-week leadership program designed to train 10–12 young people in restorative practices and circle facilitation.

Through restorative practices, intentional coaching, and structured dialogue, the Coordinator helps young people find their voice, navigate conflict, and build a sense of accountability and community. This position requires a strong, consistent presence in the GOSO office and community space.

Responsibilities:

• Work under the guidance of the Restorative Justice Consultant to align practices with best standards
• Design, facilitate, and maintain restorative justice circles within the GOSO community space.
• Create safe, inclusive, and structured environments for open dialogue, accountability, and healing.
• Lead conversations focused on harm repair, identity, relationships, and personal growth
• Support participants in developing confidence, communication skills, and the ability to express their voice.
• Respond to conflicts and high-tension situations using restorative and trauma-informed approaches.
• Conduct prep sessions and mini-circles with participants involved in program-related incidents to prepare them for full restorative conversations.
• De-escalate situations while maintaining safety, dignity, and respect.
• 8-week Junior Circle Keeper Cohort for 10–12 participants.
• Train cohort members in restorative justice principles, circle keeping, and facilitation techniques.
• Support program staff in understanding and buying into the restorative justice framework
• Provide informal coaching, modeling, and guidance on restorative practices
• Collaborate with staff to integrate restorative approaches into daily programming and participant interactions.
• Help build a consistent, organization-wide culture rooted in accountability, respect, and healing

Work Schedule & Flexibility:

• This is a full-time, in-person role with significant community and facility-based engagement
• Eligibility for one designated work-from-home day per week is granted after 90 days of employment and is contingent upon satisfactory job performance, program needs, and supervisor approval.
• The work-from-home day is intended for administrative responsibilities, documentation, planning, and virtual meetings.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience practicing restorative justice required.
• Demonstrated intensive training and background in restorative justice practices.
• Experience facilitating restorative circles and mediating conflicts.
• Experience working with adolescents and emerging adults (ages 16–24) strongly preferred.
• Lived experience with the justice system or impacted communities highly valued.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to train, coach, and influence staff.
• Passion for justice-involved youth and healing-centered work.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
