Nutrition Therapist I, II, III, IV

Position Summary Provides nutrition and dietary expertise, conducts nutritional assessments, delivers education and counseling to individuals and groups, develops and implements nutrition programs, and supervises nutrition staff at the local level. Works Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Responsibilities and Essential Functions Provide direct nutrition education services to individuals and groups. Evaluate and assess the nutritional status and needs of patients or clients and develop individual care plans (ICP). Oversee nutrition and dietary prescriptions and coordinate with health‑care providers as needed. Refer patients or clients to other health‑related and social services when appropriate. Document ICPs, referrals, and follow‑up to referrals accurately. Provide nutrition in‑service training to staff. Conduct community awareness and outreach activities related to public health and nutrition. Supervise other nutritionists, including assigning work, evaluating performance, approving leave, and initiating disciplinary actions. Provide direction, technical guidance, and training to nutrition assistants when necessary. Cover essential nutrition services for the assigned area during nutritionist vacancies. Maintain presence at the office as an essential function of the job. Perform additional duties as assigned. Educational and Experience Requirements Nutrition Therapist I: Holds a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in nutrition from an accredited college or university. Nutrition Therapist II: Registered dietitian or dietitian nutritionist (RD or RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and licensure or provisional licensure with the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision. Nutrition Therapist III: Registered dietitian or dietitian nutritionist (RD or RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and licensure with the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision, plus two years of experience as a registered dietitian. A master’s degree in public health with a major in nutrition or an emphasis on nutrition may substitute for one year of experience. Nutrition Therapist IV: Registered dietitian or dietitian nutritionist (RD or RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and licensure with the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision, plus four years of experience as a registered dietitian. A master’s degree in public health with a major in nutrition or an emphasis on nutrition may substitute for one year of experience. Must be willing to perform all job‑related travel normally associated with the position and possess a valid driver’s license. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Nutrition Therapist I: Knowledge of current nutritional sciences; effective communication skills; ability to prepare and present nutrition education information in individual or group settings; record‑keeping ability; supportive work‑environment skills. Nutrition Therapist II: Knowledge of current nutritional sciences, administrative principles, program planning, and nutrition education techniques; effective communication skills; record‑keeping ability; supportive work‑environment skills; enhanced knowledge and skills in nutrition therapy required. Nutrition Therapist III: Knowledge of current nutritional sciences, administrative principles, program planning, and nutrition education techniques; effective communication skills; record‑keeping ability; supportive work‑environment skills; development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of effective education programs; advanced knowledge of health programs, federal and state rules, teaching methods, and program policies. Nutrition Therapist IV: Knowledge of dietetics, nutritional science, institutional diet management, nutrition and its relationship to health, community resources, administrative principles, program planning, nutrition education techniques; supervisory principles; effective communication; advanced knowledge of health programs, federal and state regulations, nutrition or lactation practices; ability to develop and evaluate education programs; leadership qualities; professionalism and conflict management. Physical Demands and Work Environment Work is typically performed in an office setting with climate control. Job duties include talking, standing, walking, reaching, and prolonged sitting. Daily use of computers and phones is required. Employees must be willing to complete all job‑related travel associated with the position.
