Journeyman Plumber (0379)Reports to: Executive Director of FacilitiesDept. /Campus: Facilities, Planning & ConstructionWage/Hour Status: Non-ExemptPay Grade: M30Duty Days: 261Date Revised: 05/2024Primary Purpose:Under general supervision, maintain the flow and drainage of water, air, and other gases by assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures districtwide. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all plumbing systems in district facilities. Maintain, install, and repair all district plumbing and related equipment in order to minimize interruption of the education process.Qualifications:High School Diploma or GEDJourneyman Plumbers License (TX)Texas Driver's License (Meet eligibility requirements to drive a district vehicle)Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniquesAbility to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material.Ability to operate backhoes and ditch trencher.Ability to perform mathematical calculations.Ability to diagnose and resolve problems.Ability to use power tools.Knowledge of plumbing codesFive years of experience in plumbing trade with background in repair, remodeling, and new constructionMajor Responsibilities & Duties:Demonstrate acceptable work habits including teamwork, initiative, and dependability.Assemble, install, maintain, and pressure test all pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, drainage, sprinkler, and gas systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.Determine the sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs as indicated or according to work orders.Install and repair pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures, and plumbing system equipment, including sinks, commodes, water heaters, drinking fountain fixtures, water softeners, etc.Receive and complete work orders.Report to work on time each day.Clean sanitary sewer lines.Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.Maintain an inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.Inspect jobs upon completion ad ensure areas are clean.Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.Respond to emergency calls as needed.Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.Test back checks.Maintain all gas lines in safe condition and perform gas leaks tests as directed.Install new plumbing and domestic water systems as needed in existing facilities.Maintain and repair sewage and sump pumps.Maintain and repair hot water circulating pumps and hot water heaters.Maintain and repair or remodel all kitchen-related plumbing.Perform any other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned on an as needed basis.Supervisory Duties: N/AEquipment Used:BackhoeDitch trencherJackhammerSawWelding machineWater pumpsHand drillPipe benderPropane torchSewer rooterHeavy equipmentLight truck or vanForkliftTrencherBackhoePipe welderLarge, medium, and small sewer machinesDirt tampersWorking Conditions:Mental Demands:Ability to read.Ability to communicate effectively (verbal)Ability to follow oral and written directions.Physical Demands:Frequent bendingFrequent stoopingFrequent light liftingFrequent heavy liftingFrequent kneelingFrequent climbing of ladders, scaffolds, etc.Frequent diggingSensory Requirements:Significant hearingNear visionFar visionPeripheral visionColor discriminationDepth perceptionEnvironment:Subject to temperature extremesSubject to frequent interruptionsSubject to frequent deadlinesSubject to wet slippery surfacesSubject to enclosed spacesExposure to fumesExposure to dustExposure to solventsExposure to toxic chemicals/materialsExposure to noiseExposure to high voltageExposure to rain, snow, sleet, lightning, wind, sun, iceExposure to roof tar, grease, oilsExposure to insulation fibersExposure to ceiling tile fibersThis document describes the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties that may be assigned, alternative methods of performing your duties, or skills that may be required.
