Payroll Tax Specialist (Multi-State Payroll & Tax Compliance)
Seeking a Payroll Associate with strong backend payroll and payroll tax processing experience. This role will support payroll operations, payroll tax administration, tax notice resolution, compliance activities, payroll record maintenance, and communication with tax vendors and agencies. The ideal candidate will have experience with multi-state payroll taxes, payroll tax filings, payroll audits, and payroll systems while maintaining a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and processing of regular payroll cycles.
- Process new hires, terminations, pay changes, garnishments, and benefit deductions.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, taxes, and payroll procedures.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws.
- Maintain payroll records and documentation in accordance with company policy and retention requirements.
- Support internal and external payroll audits as needed.
- Work on payroll tax notices.
- Coordinate with tax providers and outside tax vendors.
- Handle power of attorneys and third-party authorizations.
- Communicate with external tax vendors through internal ticketing systems.
- Participate in testing activities and project-related initiatives.
- Attend team and stakeholder meetings.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma required.
- Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree preferred and may be considered for full-time opportunities.
- 23 years of payroll tax experience.
- Payroll experience required; 3 years of payroll experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of payroll processes, wage and hour laws, and payroll taxes.
- Strong payroll tax processing experience.
- Previous experience working with state agencies.
- Multi-state tax experience.
- Payroll tax filing experience.
- Solid understanding of federal, state, and FICA payroll taxes.
- Experience with payroll systems; Workday and Kronos experience is a plus.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Clear and effective communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Project and testing experience preferred
