Machine Operator

We are looking for a  dedicated and experienced Machine Operator  to join our team in Amenia, NY. This role requires operating heavy equipment such as  wheel loaders and excavators  to efficiently load trucks with mulch and assist in the production of high-quality topsoil. The ideal candidate should have experience handling bulk materials, performing routine equipment maintenance, and working in an  outdoor, fast-paced environment .

This is a  hands-on role  that requires strong attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

• Mulch Loading & Handling:

  • Operate wheel loaders to efficiently load trucks with mulch and bulk materials.
  • Ensure proper weight distribution and safe loading techniques to prevent spills or overloading.
  • Work closely with truck drivers to coordinate accurate and timely deliveries.

• Topsoil Production:

  • Use an excavator to process, mix, and prepare topsoil according to company standards.
  • Monitor material consistency and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality.
  • Assist in screening and refining soil to remove debris and enhance product value.

• Equipment Operation & Maintenance:

  • Conduct  daily inspections  on wheel loaders, excavators, and other equipment to identify wear and potential mechanical issues.
  • Perform  basic maintenance , such as greasing moving parts, checking fluid levels, and cleaning machines after operation.
  • Report any mechanical concerns to management to prevent breakdowns and maintain productivity.

• Worksite Organization & Safety:

  • Maintain a clean and well-organized work area to ensure smooth operations.
  • Follow all company safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Operate machinery responsibly to avoid damage to equipment and surroundings.
  • Be prepared to work in varying weather conditions and adapt to changing job-site needs.

Qualifications:

• Experience operating heavy equipment,  including wheel loaders, excavators, and skid steers.
• Ability to  work outdoors in all weather conditions  and handle physically demanding tasks.
• Strong  attention to detail  to ensure efficient loading and quality product preparation.
• Reliability and punctuality —we need team members who show up ready to work every day.
• Mechanical knowledge or troubleshooting skills for  minor equipment repairs  is a plus.
• Must have a  valid driver’s license  and reliable transportation.

Schedule & Compensation:

• Monday – Friday, 8 hour shifts  
• Competitive pay based on experience and skill level.
