Position Overview

Healthcare Professional Placements (HP2) is seeking an experienced Pediatric Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) for an opportunity within a high-acuity pediatric emergency and trauma environment.

The Pediatric Emergency Department provides family-centered emergency care to patients under 19 years of age presenting with urgent, emergent, critical care, and trauma-related conditions.

This is a fast-paced environment with a diverse and complex patient population ranging from treat-and-release cases to acute critical care, trauma, and burn-related emergencies. The ideal candidate will have strong pediatric emergency nursing experience, excellent clinical judgment, and the ability to respond confidently to rapidly changing patient conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care to pediatric patients presenting with urgent, emergent, and critical conditions.
• Perform rapid and ongoing patient assessments, prioritizing care based on acuity and clinical presentation.
• Recognize changes in pediatric patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions.
• Provide nursing care for pediatric medical emergencies, injuries, trauma, and other high-acuity conditions.
• Assist with stabilization and treatment of critically ill or injured pediatric patients.
• Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and other treatments in accordance with provider orders and established protocols.
• Assist physicians and interdisciplinary teams with emergency and trauma procedures.
• Perform continuous monitoring and reassessment of patients throughout their emergency department stay.
• Provide developmentally appropriate and family-centered care to pediatric patients and their caregivers.
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients and families during stressful and emergent situations.
• Coordinate care with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, specialists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Follow established infection prevention, medication safety, emergency response, and patient safety protocols.
• Participate in emergency, trauma, and resuscitation activities as required.
• Maintain readiness to respond to rapidly changing patient volumes and acuity levels.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications

• Candidates must meet all of the following requirements:
• Active New York Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Minimum 2 years of recent Pediatric Emergency Department / Pediatric ER experience
• BLS – American Heart Association (AHA)
• PALS – American Heart Association (AHA)
• ACLS – American Heart Association (AHA)
• Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity pediatric emergency environment
• Strong pediatric assessment, critical-thinking, prioritization, and emergency-response skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Highly competitive candidates will also have:
• Pediatric burn care experience – highly desirable
• TNCC – Trauma Nursing Core Course
• ATCN – Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses
• ABLS – Advanced Burn Life Support
• Previous experience within a Level I pediatric trauma environment
• Experience caring for complex pediatric emergency and critical-care patients
• Previous travel or contract nursing experience
