Mechanical Engineer - Industrial Pump & Fluid Systems

Description Partner with Sales Engineers to develop pump system solutions for industrial and municipal fluid handling applications, translating customer needs into equipment selections, quotations, and proposal packages that balance technical requirements with commercial viability. Support projects through submittals, order review, and execution to help ensure the equipment delivered meets customer requirements and application specifications. Evaluate system conditions and performance, select pumps and supporting equipment, and collaborate with Sales Engineers, customers, vendors, and internal teams throughout the project lifecycle. *This position is NOT eligible for sponsorship (or transfer of sponsorship) at this time or in the future. Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. What You’ll Be Responsible For Review customer requirements, specifications, drawings, and application data Perform pump sizing, selection, and system configuration for industrial and municipal applications Select supporting equipment and accessories based on application requirements Prepare quotations, bills of material, and technical proposal packages Develop schematics, layouts, and supporting documentation as needed Review contract scope and specifications for compliance, documentation, calculations, and testing requirements Support submittal development and technical review after award Stay engaged after award to help ensure the equipment package and final deliverables remain aligned with the application and specifications Work with vendors, purchasing, production, service, and sales to keep projects aligned and moving Maintain accurate records of quotes, opportunities, projects, and correspondence Develop and maintain expertise across assigned product lines, software tools, and pump applications About Detroit Pump & Tencarva Detroit Pump has been serving municipal and industrial customers throughout Michigan since 1926 and is proudly celebrating its 100th year in business. Profit Sharing via 401(k) Earn up to 120 hours (3 weeks) of PTO per year - plus 10 paid holidays Opportunity to work on complex industrial and municipal pump applications Broad exposure to engineered systems, pump packages, and a variety of product lines Collaborative environment with experienced Sales Engineers and technical teams Insurance benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability, and life Requirements What We’re Looking For 3 years of Applications Engineering or related pump industry experience required Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering or technical discipline required Pump OEM or industrial pump distributor experience preferred Understanding of pump hydraulics, pump construction, and system applications Ability to interpret specifications, contracts, P&IDs, drawings, and technical submittal requirements Experience working with ERP systems, quotation tools, or order management systems preferred Experience with CAD, SolidWorks, or similar design tools preferred Ability to develop technically accurate proposals and bills of material Strong communication skills and sound engineering judgment Comfortable working through both pre-award and post-award phases of a project Relevant Experience / Key Skills Applications engineering, pump sizing, pump selection, hydraulic selection, pump systems, centrifugal pumps, vertical turbine pumps, municipal water, wastewater, industrial process pumps, technical proposals, bill of materials, submittals, order fulfillment, CAD, SolidWorks, rotating equipment.
