Research Technologist (Institute for Cell Engineering)

The Research Technologist performs laboratory tasks and completes routine assays following common or established protocols and procedures. The Dawson lab is seeking a Research Technologist to work under the general supervision of a faculty investigator and other laboratory members and will perform experiments and analysis involving mouse models. The successful applicant is one who has the ability to work well with a team of lab scientists as well as independently. It is expected that this person will make substantial scientific contributions to projects and be a strong participant in this work.Specific Duties & ResponsibilitiesPerform clinical and/or research laboratory experiments by following common protocols independently or with instructions.Use basic science knowledge to learn techniques and methods of the lab.Gain problem-solving skills through progressive training, understanding of the research, and experience.Run lab tests and complete measurements.Identify and resolve common problems involved in routine assays.Increase skill base and knowledge of lab research and relevant assays.Train users in standard equipment operation and routine lab techniques and procedures.Set-up experiments based on defined standards.Collect project data.Prepare, test, and maintain standard laboratory equipment.Perform related laboratory maintenance, monitor inventory of supplies, clean equipmentOther duties as assigned.In addition to the duties described aboveFollow established procedures and protocols and use aseptic techniques to perform laboratory tests and/or experiments which may include basic molecular biology and specialized immunohistochemistry techniques as well as advanced neuroanatomical analysis of neural cell populations and cell types.Work may also involve using in vivo mouse models in experiments as well as electrophysiological and imaging approaches to analyze neural activity.Monitor inventory levels and order materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures, counting orders upon receipt.Assist with animal husbandry of the laboratory mouse colony.Perform general laboratory maintenance approximately 10% of the time.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.Preferred QualificationsTechnical Skills & Expected Level of ProficiencyData Collection and Measurement - AwarenessExperimental Preparation - AwarenessLaboratory Equipment Maintenance - AwarenessLaboratory Techniques and Assays - AwarenessLaboratory Troubleshooting and Technical Problem Solving - AwarenessOral and Written Communications - Awareness The core technical skills listed are most essential; additional technical skills may be required based on specific division or department needs.Classified Title: Research Technologist Role/Level/Range: ACRO40/E/02/CC Starting Salary Range: $15.70 - $26.25 HRLY ($42,000 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
