Labor & Delivery RN (PRN)

Description Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition. Ability to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to AHA/AAP NRP guidelines. Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on infants and adult females and reassessments as per policy. Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness. Demonstrates knowledge of fetal monitoring. Identifies FHR patterns and treats appropriately. Communicates appropriately and clearly to co-workers and physicians. Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs. Ability to assess presenting part and cardiac activity with ultrasound. Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary. Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum and Newborn Nursery departments. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. Documentation meets current standards and policies. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family. Participates in performance improvement activities. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Requirements Regulatory Requirements Completes annual educational requirements within the assigned time frame. Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and Joint Commission regulations related to their department and, as appropriate, to the hospital. Current state of Florida Registered Nurse Licensure. One or more years of recent Labor and Delivery/Newborn Nursery experience preferred. BLS required. Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification within one year preferred. Certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring within 2 years of hire preferred.
