Patient Financial Services Representative

Reports To: Patient Financial Services Supervisor 

Position Summary 

We are seeking experienced Call Centre, Patient Billing Representatives to join our healthcare revenue cycle team in Houston, Texas. This position is responsible for assisting patients with questions related to their medical bills, insurance payments, and outstanding balances. 

Representatives will handle both inbound and outbound patient calls, explain insurance payment activity, collect patient balances, and assist patients in resolving billing questions in a professional and compassionate manner. 

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a Call Centre, hospital, physician practice, or healthcare revenue cycle outsourcing environment and possess a solid understanding of insurance billing, patient responsibility, and medical billing processes. 

This position is in-office only and requires working at our Houston location in ZIP Code 77083. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

• Answer inbound calls from patients regarding hospital and physician billing statements 
• Make outbound calls to patients regarding outstanding balances 
• Explain insurance payments, deductibles, co-insurance, and co-payments 
• Review Explanation of Benefits (EOB) information with patients 
• Assist patients in understanding why balances remain after insurance payment 
• Collect payments from patients via phone using secure payment systems 
• Establish payment arrangements when appropriate 
• Accurately document all patient interactions in the billing system 
• Research and resolve billing inquiries in a timely manner 
• Maintain professionalism and empathy when assisting patients with financial concerns 
• Meet established performance metrics related to call quality, productivity, and collections 

Qualifications 

Required 

• Minimum 1 year of healthcare revenue cycle or medical billing experience 
• Experience working in one of the following environments: 
• Hospital patient financial services 
• Physician practice billing office 
• Healthcare call center 
• Revenue cycle outsourcing vendor 
• Understanding of basic health insurance concepts including: 
• Deductibles 
• Co-payments 
• Co-insurance 
• Explanation of Benefits (EOB) 
• Strong communication and customer service skills 
• Ability to explain financial and insurance concepts clearly to patients 
• Basic computer proficiency and experience navigating multiple systems 

Preferred 

• Experience working in a patient financial services call center 
• Familiarity with healthcare billing systems such as: 
• GoRev 
• Cerner 
• Meditech 
• Athena 
• Experience processing patient payments or payment plans 
• Knowledge of hospital or large physician practice billing
