Job Title: Environmental Monitoring Analyst I Job Description
The Environmental Monitoring Analyst I supports a global bio-pharmaceutical sterile injectable manufacturing operation by performing viable and non-viable environmental monitoring across classified manufacturing areas. This role focuses on air, water, and surface sampling, accurate sample logging in a laboratory information management system (LIMS), and strict adherence to cGMP and clean room practices. The analyst processes water, product, and commodity samples, performs bioburden testing, and contributes directly to maintaining a controlled aseptic manufacturing environment. This position offers a strong entry point into pharmaceutical microbiology with clear pathways for growth into advanced analyst, trainer, and supervisory roles within a large, well-established environmental monitoring and microbiology team.
Responsibilities
The role is based in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment that combines extensive time on the manufacturing floor with laboratory-based work. Approximately 80% of the time is spent in manufacturing areas performing environmental monitoring, and about 20% is spent in the lab processing samples and conducting bioburden testing. The facility includes multiple classified cleanroom areas (Grade A, B, C, and D), and analysts perform a wide range of environmental monitoring activities across these zones. The environmental monitoring team is large, with approximately 45-50 people split across day and night shifts. The position follows a 2-2-3 rotating schedule with 12-hour shifts on days or nights, and analysts work in teams of 5-8 under the guidance of one of several supervisors. Gowning is a core requirement, and individuals must be comfortable wearing full cleanroom attire in tight spaces and adhering to strict dress and personal item policies, including no makeup, no fake nails, and no jewelry when sampling. The environment is highly regulated and cGMP-driven, with close interaction between the manufacturing floor and the microbiology laboratories. Training includes an initial orientation followed by integration into the team schedule, working with specific trainers to complete training qualifications and become certified on routine job functions over several months. The role is a full-time position with access to a comprehensive benefits package, including paid holidays and vacation time, and offers a stable opportunity with significant potential for career growth within a large, expanding environmental monitoring and microbiology organization.
