Clinical Nurse (RN), BMT/CT Clinic

Brief Overview The Clinical Nurse (CN) is an RN who provides hands‑on care to patients, practicing in an evidence‑based manner within the scope of the California Nursing Practice Act, regulatory requirements, standards of care, and hospital policies. The CN performs care planning, assessment, implementation, and evaluation; coordinates care with other providers; and teaches patients and families the knowledge and skills needed to manage care and prevent complications. The CN partners with the patient’s family to deliver family‑centered care and monitors the quality of nursing care provided. Responsibilities The Helping Role Establishes Therapeutic Relationships: Creates and maintains a climate conducive to healing by being present to the patient and family, identifying and managing discomforts; providing emotional support and information; guiding families through phases of illness and recovery. Mobilizes the patient’s strengths and abilities for recovery and control over the plan of care. Diagnostic and Monitoring Functions: Obtains accurate assessment data and interprets data as normal versus abnormal. Determines nursing diagnoses and monitors evaluations as needed. Plans and Implements Therapeutic Interventions: Collaborates with patient, family, and health‑care team to develop an individualized plan of care. Implements nursing and medical interventions safely and evaluates effectiveness. Teaching and Coaching, Patient and Staff Teaching: Assesses patient and family learning needs and readiness. Teaches information for self‑care and illness prevention, adjusting based on responses. Teaches other staff members incidentally or in formal roles such as preceptor or super‑user. Effective Management of Rapidly Changing Situations: Rapidly grasps problem situations, responds quickly, and activates emergency protocols. Monitors and Ensures Quality Healthcare Practices: Monitors own practices and assists in monitoring others for patient and employee safety. Looks for opportunities for continual improvement in patient care and the work environment. Organization and Work Role Functions: Integrates multiple requests by setting priorities, delegating tasks, and seeking assistance as needed. Priorities: Contributes to team building through participation in unit programs and meetings. Contributes to positive morale using constructive and effective conflict resolution skills. Management and Delegation: Utilizes technology for communication, documentation, and locating information regarding clinical situations, diagnosis, and treatments. Contributes to the knowledge and skill of other nursing staff through formal or informal teaching, shared governance, publications, and presentations. Education: Attains knowledge and competence that reflects current nursing practice and demonstrates commitment to lifelong learning. Communication: Communicates effectively in a variety of formats in all practice areas. Leadership: Demonstrates leadership in the professional practice setting and within the profession. Professional Practice Evaluation: Evaluates own nursing practice relative to professional standards, guidelines, statutes, rules, and regulations. Education Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to communicate effectively in English. Two years of oncology experience preferred. Two years of BMT‑CT experience preferred. One year of ambulatory experience preferred. Coordination of care experience preferred. Licenses and Certifications California Registered Nurse (RN) license. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Physical Demands and Work Conditions Frequent movement and use of protective clothing or gear as appropriate for risk of exposure to contagious disease, radiation, infection, and emotionally disturbed patients. Safety precautions are routine for nearly all situations. Blood Borne Pathogens Category I – Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $96.35 – $111.14 per hour. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
