JSH Tax & Business Consulting is a St. Charles accounting, tax, and business advisory firm serving small to medium-sized businesses and individuals. Our team of about 20 professionals works directly with clients on bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, sales tax, income tax, consulting, and CFO services. Rooted in downtown St. Charles since 1981 and formerly known as Jones, Savarese, Harrington & Company, we recently became JSH Tax & Business Consulting to support our growth and expanded services.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented tax preparer to join our team for the 2027 tax season. You will prepare individual income tax returns for our clients and work closely with our CPAs, who review your work. This is an in-person position based in our St. Charles office; remote work is not an option during tax season.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Prepare federal and Illinois individual income tax returns (Form 1040), including Schedules A, B, C, D, E and SE
• Review client source documents (W-2s, 1099s, K-1s and brokerage statements) and follow up on missing or unclear information
• Prepare extensions and estimated tax payment vouchers
• Meet with clients in person and by phone to gather information and answer questions
• Keep organized, complete workpapers and promptly resolve review notes from our CPAs
• Support the team with general tax season tasks as needed

SCHEDULE & EXPECTATIONS

• Commit to a full-time schedule for the entire tax season, January 11 through April 30, 2027
• Work in person at our St. Charles office; remote or hybrid work is not available during tax season
• Be available for extended hours during peak season, including some Saturdays
• Because of the timing of tax season, time off in March and April is limited

REQUIREMENTS

• 2–3 years of experience preparing individual (Form 1040) tax returns
• Working knowledge of current federal and Illinois individual tax law
• Active PTIN (Preparer Tax Identification Number)
• Experience with Lacerte tax software is a plus, but not required
• Experience with QuickBooks Online is a plus
• EA, CPA or AFSP credential is a plus
• Comfortable with Microsoft Excel and Outlook
• Strong attention to detail and a professional, client-friendly manner
