Transplant Hepatologist

Overview The Methodist Transplant Institute, in partnership with The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), is accepting applications for a transplant hepatologist. As a leader in organ transplantation for more than 40 years, the program offers liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation, living‑donor organ transplantation, and hepatobiliary surgery. The position focuses on general and transplant hepatology with a balance of outpatient clinics and inpatient liver service on a rotating basis with other hepatologists. Fellows in transplant hepatology are welcome to apply. Responsibilities Provide and manage direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, and assessments using best practices to diagnose and treat patients. Prescribe pharmaceuticals and other medications as appropriate. Refer patients to specialists and relevant patient care components. Evaluate patients for the need for and level of prescribed medicines and consider alternative techniques for patient care. Manage the daily operations of a specific medical program, patient care unit, or research function. Direct and coordinate patient care activities of nursing and support staff. Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and infection‑control standards. Participate in health promotion, education, and prevention programs. Explain procedures, discuss test results, and prescribe treatments with patients and families. Order, perform, and interpret tests, analyze records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patients’ conditions. Maintain accurate and timely documentation within three days of visit or discharge. Coordinate work with nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologists, and other health‑care providers. Support call coverage for the practice and hospitals. Maintain productivity at acceptable levels and focus on high patient and family satisfaction. Develop strong partnerships with fellow physicians and support staff. Education and Training MD or DO Current board certification in gastroenterology or transplant hepatology Experience Fellowship in transplant hepatology or post‑fellowship experience in the care of patients with advanced liver disease and liver transplantation Experience providing care for general and transplant hepatology patients during fellowship or current position Ability to communicate and function well within a multidisciplinary team Supervision of advanced practice providers required Training of medical students, general surgery residents, and transplant surgery fellows expected Opportunities to participate in clinical and translational research through the Transplant Research Institute Licenses and Certifications Licensed Physician, Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners Board Certification in Gastroenterology or Transplant Hepatology Other state licenses as required (e.g., Arkansas, Mississippi) Physical Demands Must be physically and mentally able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation Physical activities include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion Must have good balance and coordination May exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally or up to 25 lbs. frequently; work is considered medium intensity Requires close visual acuity, including color, depth perception, and field of vision for tasks such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading Frequent invasive and non‑invasive patient contact and exposure to patient body fluids and hazardous materials Must react quickly to emergency situations #J-18808-Ljbffr 7600 UT Methodist Physicians
