Manager of Circulation & Information Services Location: Amherst, Massachusetts Job Summary Reporting to the Associate Dean for Research and Learning, the Manager oversees the Circulation and Information Services Desks in the W.E.B. DuBois Library, supervising staff across multiple shifts and ensuring high‑quality information, technical, reference, and circulation support for students, faculty, and staff. Essential Functions Provide leadership and direction for all unit activities, including supervision, training, evaluation, and performance management of staff. Advocate for unit needs and resources with library administration. Develop staff schedules to maintain library operating hours and assist in covering desks as necessary. Hire and supervise student employees and manage student employee budgets. Collaborate with library leadership to develop and interpret policies and procedures for optimal user service. Coordinate with library facilities personnel to monitor the library’s physical space. Respond to emergencies and other incidents by coordinating with campus safety and other entities. Work with Information Technology to maintain and optimize public computers, laptops, printers, and other equipment. Collect and manage departmental metrics and statistics for unit performance and national reporting requirements. Other Functions Contribute to the planning of library public programming. Represent the unit in UMass Amherst Library meetings and committees. Collaborate with peers in the Science and Engineering Library, other DuBois Library units, and the Five Colleges Consortium as appropriate. Perform routine office duties with minimal physical demands. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of customer service experience, preferably in a library environment. Demonstrated supervisory skills. Ability to establish work priorities, set performance expectations, achieve goals, and direct work in an evolving environment. Strong oral and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a library. Experience working in a union environment. Experience using Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Additional Details Reports to the Associate Dean for Research and Learning. Supervises 10 direct staff and student employees. Working Conditions Work is performed in a standard office or indoor university environment and involves minimal physical exertion. Work Schedule and Work Arrangement Monday through Friday, 37.5 hours per week; office‑only arrangement. Salary Information Pay Grade: PSSAP Grade 27.
