SALARY: 170,000 – 220,000

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Controls & Facility Engineer located at the  NASA Ames Research Center (ARC)in  Mountain View, CA . Astrion is looking for individuals with extensive background in wind‑tunnel systems, complex mechanical/electrical controls, project engineering, facility automation, and government/contractor interface management. The role supports operational readiness, troubleshooting, commissioning, system upgrades, and project leadership for multi‑million‑dollar government engineering programs.

  REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

• 20+ years relevant experience in controls engineering, wind‑tunnel operations, instrumentation, complex facility management, or large‑scale mechanical/electrical systems
• Demonstrated expertise with wind‑tunnel control logic (pressure control, isolation systems, HWSS, IGV control, supervisory state‑flow systems).
• Deep engineering background in mechanical or electrical engineering, including MS/BS degrees from accredited institutions. 

• Strong competency in control‑systems tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, MATRIXx/SystemBuild, Ovation, AutoCAD, and failure‑analysis methodologies. 

• Proven project engineering and project‑management experience on multi‑million‑dollar government or industry engineering programs
• Ability to manage technical specification development, commissioning, and integrated system testing.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder‑management skills; history of leading multi‑disciplinary engineering teams.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS 

• Professional Engineering license (California or equivalent).
• Prior NASA Ames wind‑tunnel or aeronautics test‑facility experience strongly preferred.

  RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide technical leadership and operational support for UPWT, including control systems engineering, facility troubleshooting, test‑section systems, and daily operations. 

• Lead or contribute to modernization projects involving control system replacement, safety system upgrades, mechanical/electrical refurbishment, facility automation, and tunnel performance improvements.
• Conduct requirements development, verification/validation, hazard remediation, interface management, and risk identification/mitigation.
• Perform detailed design, analysis, modeling, and systems testing across mechanical, structural, electrical, and control domains.
• Prepare technical documentation, test procedures, project reports, white papers, and trade studies to support funding justification and decision‑
