Project Manager - Architecture

Overview Colliers Engineering & Design is looking for licensed architects to join our growing Commercial Retail team as a Project Manager in our San Antonio, TX or Austin, TX office. Our team of talented and creative architects work closely as trusted partners with our clients throughout the design process to realize a jointly conceived vision. We offer a full range of services from preliminary planning and feasibility studies through final design and construction inspection for both full build‑out, renovations and adaptive reuse projects. Our markets include commercial development, warehousing, pre K‑12 and higher education, science and technology, municipal and public works agencies, offices and corporate facilities, and retail and food. Our in‑house team of architects, interior designers, engineers, and planners skillfully balance design constraints with the clients’ needs and desired outcome. Our professionals also provide mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design; programming, corporate branding, standards integration, workstation specification, facilities and construction management support, energy solutions, and LEED certification. We take pride in delivering results that are innovative, sustainable and award‑winning. Responsibilities Prepare effective work plans and man‑hour budgets for approval by Department Manager. Monitor time schedules and capital cost budgets on projects to satisfy the client as well as control work and productivity. Prepare advanced engineering designs and/or technical data for completion and accuracy. Responsible for the quality control/quality assurance process on all assigned projects. Oversee the work and productivity on assigned projects. Strive to achieve predetermined goals for profit, productivity targets, and schedule of deliverables. Participates in formulating and coordinating proposals and provides other Marketing support, including Business Development. Identify the project team, work packages and tasks, evaluation methods, productivity targets, schedule of deliverables and manpower needed on projects. Hold team meetings ensuring procedures governing review and approval of projects are followed prior to submission of completed work. Negotiate with clients on any scope changes relative to project budgets and schedules subject to supervisors’ approval. Coordinate and communicate effectively with all employees involved in the project to ensure high utilization rates (i.e. Project team meetings). Review monthly man‑hour and cost reports to ensure projects are being completed at the pre‑determined goal. Ensure everyone involved is working in accordance with all project planning and profit control procedures. Ensure that all scope revisions affecting the project schedule and/or budget are discussed with the client. Ensure that all out‑of‑scope work and associated fees are approved by the client prior to performing the services. Solicit help and involvement from Department Managers and any other managers to troubleshoot any technical problems. Works efficiently with the Billing Department to authorize and transmit bills to client. Follows up with clients for timely payments. Mentor junior staff in learning sound technical and business practices, and enhancing corporate objectives. Adhere to Health and Safety program and all applicable SOPs. Qualifications Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Architecture or equivalent work experience as required to maintain licensed architect status. 8+ years of relevant experience, preferably in commercial/retail. Licensure in the state of Texas required. Previous use and understanding of AutoCAD and Revit design software with the ability to produce preliminary and schematic designs in AutoCAD at a minimum, but Revit is desired. Strong communication skills required. Willingness to mentor team members on technical and professional skills. Previous business development and project management experience preferred in planning and executing design/construction projects. Ability to work in close collaboration with other managers and leadership, clients, in‑house and outside consultants. Client facing experience. Ability to work primarily independently. Willing to travel occasionally to client sites and meetings. Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job‑related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
