Job Title Construction Coordinator – Engineering Specialist 3 – Delivery & Operations Division – Region 1, Oregon Department of Transportation. Overview Join our team as a Construction Coordinator and help ensure Oregon DOT’s highway construction projects in Region 1 are delivered safely, accurately, and in full compliance with plans and standards. You will coordinate field work, review contractor performance, and assist with critical project documentation. Responsibilities Coordinate field construction activities with contractors, inspectors, and survey crews. Monitor, inspect, and evaluate contractor work, accepting or rejecting materials and suspending non‑specification activities. Review and manage contractor schedules and project documentation, ensuring accurate, timely, and complete reporting. Prepare and analyze project budgets, crew budgets, cost estimates, and construction calculations for grading, paving, structures and related work. Develop, negotiate, and review contract change orders, extra work orders, orders for force work and assist with claims analysis and dispute resolution. Ensure DBE/EEO/subcontractor compliance and conduct commercially useful function reviews. Provide professional communication, customer service, and collaboration with ODOT staff, contractors, agencies, local governments, the public, and project teams. Support team operations through safety practices, training, attendance, professionalism and adherence to ODOT policies and technical manuals. Work in both office and outdoor field environments, including rough terrain, heavy traffic areas, inclement weather, and extended computer use; perform statewide travel and drive regularly. Maintain and operate vehicles, survey tools, computers, and required protective equipment. Minimum Qualifications Four years of experience in engineering related to construction contract administration, construction inspection, surveying or permitting; OR An associate degree in engineering (civil or transportation related) and two years of engineering technician experience; OR A bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil or transportation related) and one year of engineering technician experience; OR An equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. Special Qualifications Valid U.S. driver’s license and acceptable driving record; driving is an essential function of this position. Desired Attributes Accurate interpretation and analysis of engineering plans, specifications and technical documentation; application of geometry, algebra and trigonometry to solve construction‑related problems. Excellent written and verbal report writing, and ability to convey technical information verbally. Experience making timely, well‑reasoned decisions in field settings related to safety, specification compliance, material acceptance, and project scheduling. Consistent record of following safety policies and procedures, contributing to a safe work environment and demonstrating professionalism aligned with ODOT values. Benefits Competitive salary within the range of $5,527 – $8,568 per month (non‑PERS), with a 6% increase upon PERS eligibility. 11 paid holidays, flexible work schedules, paid leave, and other Oregon DOT benefits.
