Job Title: Concrete and Masonry Shop Manager

Job Summary

The Concrete and Masonry Shop Manager oversees the daily operations, inventory, and equipment maintenance of the shop. This role coordinates closely with field project managers and crew leaders to ensure that all materials tools, scaffold and machinery are prepared, serviced, and dispatched efficiently to maintain project schedules. The manager combines technical expertise in material management, shop supplies, and heavy equipment maintenance with strong organizational leadership to foster a safe, cost-effective, and highly productive environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Shop & Operations Oversight: Manage the daily workflows of the shop, including organizing layouts, streamlining and staging processes, and maintaining clean, compliant work environments.
• Inventory & Procurement: Monitor inventory levels for masonry and concreting supplies. Order parts, tools, and materials while managing vendors and staying within the operating budget.
• Equipment Maintenance & Management: Inspect, service, and coordinate repairs for concrete mixers, power vibrators, saws, hand tools, trailers, and heavy machinery (e.g., loaders, forklifts) to minimize down-time. Keep precise digital maintenance records.
• Logistics & Field Coordination: Communicate frequently with project managers and foremen to anticipate project needs. Coordinate the timely transport and dispatch of tools, and materials to active job sites.
• Team Leadership & Training: Supervise shop and yard staff. Train junior staff on proper material handling, equipment maintenance, and trade techniques.
• Safety & Compliance: Enforce rigorous workplace safety standards, including OSHA regulations specific to crystalline silica dust exposure, heavy lifting, and machinery operations. Rectify hazards immediately. OSHA30 or OSHA10 is a plus.

 

 

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in commercial concrete, precast fabrication, or masonry work, alongside at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial shop role.
• Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of logistics and loading process of trucks and trailers. Helpful understanding of concrete mix designs, curing properties, masonry techniques (brick, stone, block), and building compliance codes.
• Mechanical Aptitude: Experience diagnosing and performing preventative maintenance on common construction shop machinery, hydraulic tools, and technical systems.
• Software Skills: Proficiency with basic inventory management, asset tracking, or construction management software. Builder Trend understanding a plus.
• Licenses: Valid driver's license required; a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is highly preferred for moving heavy equipment trailers.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50–100 lbs regularly.
• Ability to work in loud, dusty environments and stand, bend, or kneel for extended periods.
• Flexibility to work occasional off-shift hours, overtime, or varying weather conditions depending on seasonal project workloads.

Work Week: 45-50 Hours. Monday through Friday.
