We believe people have a right to know how much AI threatens their family, their friends, and their future — and how little is being done to protect them. AI companies are working to replace all human workers and concentrate power in the hands of a few tech elites. In their race for dominance, they are building ever more powerful systems without knowing how to control them. AI companies’ activities could subvert the political system, reduce human agency and influence, and increase risk of war. Politicians, elites, and companies are failing to acknowledge the severity of these risks or the actions needed to address them. We are in a state of crisis and the public has a right to know. AI is not inevitable. We must end the race to replace humanity. The risks posed by AI companies’ pursuit of “Superintelligence” are unacceptable. Stopping the race to build Superintelligence is sensible, possible, and a moral imperative. Scaling up AI relies on an extremely concentrated supply chain, unprecedented levels of investment, and the support of governments around the world — it’s not a law of nature, it’s an immense project that only proceeds through deliberate effort. We are a new organization focused on informing and organizing the public around societal-scale risks and harms of AI. Founded by AI researcher and professor David Krueger, Evitable provides the public with uncompromising, independent perspectives on AI. David has been an influential advocate on AI risk within the AI research community for over a decade; shortly before founding Evitable, he co-authored the landmark paper introducing the term “gradual disempowerment”. In 2023, he became a founding research director at the world-leading UK AI Security Institute and initiated the CAIS Statement on AI Risk, alerting the world to the growing expert concern that AI might lead to human extinction. As companies openly pursue Superintelligent AI that could replace humanity, public opposition is more critical — and powerful — than ever.” This is a role for someone passionate about what it means to communicate AI risk to a mass audience across platforms, not just educating people but knowing how to activate them. As Communications Manager, you will own Evitable’s day-to-day content and digital presence. You’ll work closely with the Communications Director to bring Evitable’s marketing strategy to life and build meaningful audience growth. You will be the one setting the pace for how fast and far Evitable’s message will travel. Key roles and responsibilities Run the social media calendar and maintain a dependable publishing cadence across all of Evitable’s channels. Write posts in the appropriate style for each channel, across short form and long form media. Engage with Evitable’s digital audience and strategic partners across platforms. Repurpose David’s media appearances, interviews, and op-eds into clips, posts, and simple graphics, tailored for optimal performance on each channel. Develop and send the monthly newsletter and optimize for increased engagement. Manage Evitable’s CRM and email campaigns. Maximize Evitable’s SEO and digital advertising presence, with an insight into media monitoring and analytics. Write copy for Evitable’s website, movement building resources, and media we produce. Identify rapidly developing opportunities for Evitable to respond and engage appropriately Experience and skills expected of the post holder A track record of audience engagement and growth across various social media channels, SEO, digital advertising and newsletters. Media monitoring and analytics Strong and clear writing skills that can turn complex concepts into something easy to understand, aesthetically pleasing and memorable. Familiarity with graphic design, image and video editing Familiarity with audience management techniques and software Alignment with Evitable’s mission Adherence to rigorous standards of messaging and accuracy Comfort operating in early-stage environments Self-directed and proactive Preferred Experience in advocacy, campaigns, movements or political communications. Familiarity with AI risk or critical tech policy Salary: $85,000 – $120,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
