Phlebotomist 5340 This is a contract job opportunity with potential for perm. Location: Mobile, AL Schedule: 3rd shift 8pm-6:30am M-F Rotate every other weekend Projected duration: 3 months + potential for perm Job code: CVDJP00035340 Benefits are available Requires experience with pediatric to geriatric and hard stick patients Summary: The primary task of a blood drawer is to support in the execution of various delegated tasks, addressing issues, providing training, and suggesting workflow enhancements. Position Responsibilities: Prior experience in blood extractions, tagging samples, spinning specimens, documenting maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient records, etc. Gathers and preserves specimens following established protocols. Explains the venipuncture process (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection (e.g. urine or fecal) clearly but courteously as needed Demonstrates techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Thorough understanding of all physician orders. Matches requisition forms to specimen tubes. Labels, centrifuges, divides, and freezes specimens as per test orders. Verifies all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy. Prepares specimens for transportation Stores specimen samples at required temperatures, places samples in suitable containers/tubes, labels accurately, follows specific protocols for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Complies with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attends annual departmental trainings Handles phone calls, observes laboratory results to address inquiries. Minimum Qualifications: Valid certification in Phlebotomy for the state of employment where necessary At least 6 months of experience conducting venipunctures in a busy lab or hospital environment Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite High School Diploma or equivalent Minimum of 1-2 years of experience
