Description of Work


The University of Nebraska College of Law invites applications to direct and teach a clinic in Immigration Law. The College is relaunching the clinic with support from grant funding. The Clinic will provide students with intensive, closely supervised experience representing clients in immigration matters while expanding access to legal services for immigrant communities in Nebraska. Depending on case needs and the director's expertise, matters may include family-based petitions, removal defense, asylum, victim-based relief, naturalization assistance, and related community-based projects.

Responsibilities will include providing academic and programmatic leadership, supervising students in client representation, teaching the clinical course, and helping shape the clinic's next phase of service, education, and community engagement.

The position is full time and includes a three-year appointment as a Lecturer. Continued appointment after that time will depend on the candidate's success and continued funding. To ensure that the clinic can be offered in the fall semester of 2027, the Assistant Director should be available no later than July 1, 2027. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Required Qualifications

• J.D. degree or equivalent.
• Experience or a strong interest in teaching, mentoring, and supervising law students.
• Substantial experience practicing immigration law.
• Current license to practice law.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current license to practice law in Nebraska.
• Experience directing or administering a legal clinic, nonprofit legal program, or comparable practice setting.
• Spanish-language proficiency or experience effectively supervising work conducted with interpreters and multilingual clients.
• Experience building community partnerships or serving clients in rural or underserved communities.
