Sport Club Assistant Coach: Women’s Water Polo

General Purpose Under the direction of the AS/SDSU Competitive Sports Manager, the Assistant Women's Water Polo Coach will assist the Head Coach in supervising all aspects of the competitive water polo program, including teaching, administration, dryland and deck coaching at all team events and functions. The position is responsible for the safety and well-being of participants by enforcing policies and procedures. It averages 10‑15 hours per week and requires availability for evenings and some weekend hours. The Assistant Coach is also responsible for enforcing rules, policies, and procedures as outlined in the Sport Club Handbook and for all duties associated with coaching a collegiate club program. The successful candidate will enforce and comply with all policies of Associated Students/SDSU, the Sport Club Program, and the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA), serving as a positive role model. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Comply with the Associated Students/SDSU Sport Club Coaching Agreement. Ensure individual and program compliance with all policies of Associated Students/SDSU and Aztec Recreation. Prioritize safety of all team members, coaches, and equipment at all times. Represent the team and Associated Students/SDSU professionally. Collaborate with team officers and administrators to develop and achieve program priorities. Assist in recruiting goals. Design and implement practice schedules and training schemes. Ensure practices begin and end on time. Coordinate scrimmages and competitions with other coaches and the CWPA. Assist with equipment maintenance and repairs. Maintain the team's positive community standing. Reach out to alumni to recruit support for the team. Understand Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) and NCAA rules and regulations. Represent the team at regional or national meetings. Perform other duties as assigned. Customer Service and Collaboration Establish and maintain working relationships with various A.S. and University departments. Represent the team and Associated Students/SDSU professionally. Maintain positive and effective relationships with all athletes and staff. Safety Ensure all operations prioritize safety of staff and customers, following the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan and other safety policies. Adhere to Associated Students' Code of Safe Practices. Report accidents to supervisor and review changes required to avoid recurrence; ensure proper documentation is completed. Report maintenance problems and unsafe equipment immediately. Qualifications Education Bachelor's Degree preferred. Experience Proficient knowledge of Aztec Recreation programs, facilities, and policies. Knowledge of Microsoft applications and the Aztec Recreation website. Knowledge and/or participation in Aztec Recreation programs and facilities preferred. License & Certification American Red Cross Lifeguarding required. Valid California Driver’s License and proof of automobile insurance required. Training Anti‑Harassment training (must be completed within 30 days of hire). Workplace Violence Prevention Plan Training (must be completed within 30 days of hire). Gender Awareness Training (must be completed within 30 days of hire). Sexual Harassment Prevention Training (must be completed within 30 days of hire). Computer Security Training (must be completed within 30 days of hire). Defensive Driving Course. Attend all mandatory Aztec Recreation/Sport Club Staff meetings and trainings as directed. Performance Expectations Handle confidential items and understand the importance of confidentiality. Maintain positive working relationships with staff and athletes. Exercise tact and exhibit sound professional judgment. Work well with different work styles. Have strong organizational skills. Follow oral and written directions and complete projects. Commit to all policies, rules, and regulations of Associated Students/SDSU, Aztec Recreation, and sport leagues. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Commitment to student success and ability to recruit, train, and evaluate collegiate student athletes. Strong coaching background with an emphasis on skill development and leadership. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work effectively with student athletes, team officers, coaches, administrators, and alumni. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Handle difficult situations with patience, good judgment, and diplomacy. SCHEDULE & Working Conditions This is a part‑time position up to 25 hours per week. Employee schedules vary according to team needs throughout the academic year. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work may occur indoors or outdoors, requiring exposure to a variety of elements. Indoor environments may involve extreme temperatures, lighting, and hazardous conditions. Outdoor work may involve sun, heat/cold, wind, rain, dust, pollen, and other environmental risks. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Physical requirements include walking, walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, climbing, working in confined spaces, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying loads up to 25 pounds. Standing and moving for extended periods may be required. RELATIONSHIPS Inside The Organization Reports to Competitive Sports Manager. Interacts with Aztec Recreation Assistant Director, Competitive Sports Supervisor, Competitive Sport Program Leads, Competitive Sports Office Assistant, and Sport Club Site Supervisors. Interfaces with other Aztec Recreation Staff, Aquaplex Staff, Sport Club Coaches, and Athletic Training Staff. Outside The Organization Related University Personnel. Sport Governing Body. Other Universities and Colleges. Professional Organizations. EMPLOYMENT CATEGORY This is a part‑time hourly position at $20.00 per hour. Background and Live Scan checks, including criminal records, must be satisfactorily completed before hiring. Failure to complete the check may affect application status or continued employment.
