Elementary Teacher

Position: Elementary Teacher (Job ID: 307) Location: Philip’s Academy Charter School of Paterson (High‑Needs School) Mission The mission of Philip’s Academy Charter School of Paterson is to provide a moral and rigorous education to a diverse student body, accomplished in a hands‑on, technology‑infused educational environment that embraces differentiated instruction and individual attention. Nature and Scope of Job Under the supervision of the Assistant Principal, the Elementary School Teacher will be the instructional leader of their classroom. The teacher will create, manage, and participate in a variety of learning environments and activities that enhance student development and mastery of learning objectives. Teachers participate in extensive professional development, collaborate with faculty and staff, promote rigorous learning opportunities, and look out for the collective and individual interests of students and the greater community. Job Goal Provide an approved Elementary School education program and establish a class environment that fosters learning and personal growth. Help pupils develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continued education. Maintain good relationships with parents and other staff members. Responsibilities Develop lesson plans and classroom learning activities. Promote active learning to achieve the New Jersey Student Learning Standards and district educational goals. Create instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each pupil’s needs. Set specific objectives in lesson preparation and carry through presentations to achieve those objectives. Plan class activities that are age‑appropriate and meet the individual needs, interests, and ability levels of all pupils. Maintain classroom behavior standards to create a conducive learning climate. Bundle class time effectively. Prepare written and oral assignments and tests that require analytical and critical thinking. Communicate with parents through conferences and other means about school program and pupil progress. Use community resources to enhance the instructional program. Cooperate with other staff members to assess and resolve learning problems. Maintain professional competence through in‑service education and other professional growth activities. Participate in school‑level planning, faculty meetings/committees, and school system groups. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy. Perform other duties such as lunch and recess duties as assigned. Qualifications Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate and Elementary School Education with Subject Matter Specialization Endorsement or eligibility. Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activities. Ability to maintain a positive learning environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status. Current residency in New Jersey or approval for a residency waiver; candidate must obtain residency within one year of employment if required. Preferred 1–2 years of teaching experience. Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students. Shared dedication to Philip’s Academy’s philosophy and mission. Excellent teamwork, work ethic, and organizational skills. Effective communication in English; bilingual is a plus. Excellent integrity, gentle spirit, and strong moral character and initiative. Technological abilities: word processing, data management, and informational retrieval. CPR, First Aid, and Blood‑Borne Pathogen certification or willingness to obtain certification upon hire. Completion of a Tuberculosis test and physical with physician documentation. Physical ability to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry students up to 70 lb.
