Intermediate ISS/BASE Paraprofessional

Primary Purpose: An ISS Paraprofessional provides instructional assistance to students that are placed in the in-school suspension (ISS) disciplinary setting. A Behavioral Adaptation Support Environment (BASE) Paraprofessional manages student behavior in the BASE classroom while under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Assist in preparing, conducting and managing of classroom activities. Qualifications: Education/Certification: High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate Have met formal academic assessment, associate’s degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning* Valid Texas educational aide certificate Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics Ability to work well with children Ability to communicate effectively Experience: Some experience working with children Major Responsibilities and Duties: 1.Instructs and models replacement behaviors identified on student's behavior plan. 2. Provides instruction and role-play opportunities for students in replacement behaviors identified in student's behavior plan. 3. Consistently monitors students and uses BASE monitoring sheets to document student behaviors. 4.
