The physical activity of this position includes:
Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.

- Supervises, schedules, and participates in the work of skilled and semi-skilled workers and equipment operators in the repair, maintenance and construction of water and sewer lines; Discusses job requirements with and receives work instructions from supervisor; Trains and instructs subordinates; Operates equipment incidental to assigned work or the transportation of crew; Assists in preparation of specifications for purchase of equipment and supplies; Responsible for crew jobsite safety; Performs daily pre-trip inspections on assigned vehicles and equipment. (75%)
- Maintains time and material records; Prepares simple work reports; Requisitions necessary materials and equipment. (15%)
- Required to serve on the emergency on-call rotation. (10%)

- Obtain OSHA Competent Person Trenching/Shoring and Confined Space Entry certification within 12 months of hire.
- Basic Work Zone Safety and Flagger certifications within 12 months.
- NIMS IS-700, IS-100, and IS-200 training certificates within 12 months of hire.
- NC Grade II Wastewater Collection System Operators Certification and Grade B Distribution System Operators Certification within 24 months of hire.
- Obtain a Class A Commercial driver's license with Restriction 8 and Tanker endorsement within three months of hire.
- Minimum 1 year at a Crew Chief I position.
- Minimum 6 hours of approved supervisory management training upon hire.
- OSHA Competent Person Trenching/Shoring and Confined Space Entry certification.
- Basic and Intermediate Work Zone Safety and Flagger certifications upon hire
- NIMS IS-700, IS-100, and IS-200 training certificates within 12 months of hire.
