Physical Therapist - Outpatient | Back Bay Rehabilitation

Under the general supervision of the Director of Rehabilitation and Diagnostic Services, the Physical Therapist is responsible for administering Physical Therapy services including evaluations, establishing and modifying treatment plans, providing and supervising treatment, and documenting care to inpatient and outpatient patients in accordance with department and facility policies and procedures. The role aids in restoring patients’ function, alleviating pain, and preventing disability by planning and delivering medically prescribed physical therapy. Position Function And Duties Clinical Evaluation Validates that the prescription from the provider is present and understood prior to the evaluation and treatment of the patient. Provides evaluation and treatment according to the provider's order, calling the provider if clarification is needed. Performs evaluations and reevaluations according to the departmental policies. Evaluates the effects of physical therapy treatments and fit of prosthetic and orthotic devices by observing, noting, and evaluating the patient's progress; recommends adjustments and modifications. Uses objective measures on all evaluations and documents findings. Measurable/functional goals are written based on these objective findings. Develops a treatment plan with input from the patient and according to the provider's order. Treatment And Discharge Plan Treatment plan addresses the needs of the patient, including age, physical, psychological, and learning needs. Encourages the patient to participate in their plan of care and goals by asking appropriate questions. Uses a variety of therapeutic exercises, functional training, manual therapy techniques, assistive and adaptive devices and equipment, and physical agents and electrotherapeutic modalities to treat patients. Educates the patient on ongoing goals as they are being achieved or modified and on impending discharge. Completes discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other health care workers, contributing to patient care conferences. Ensures continuation of the therapeutic plan following discharge by designing home exercise programs, instructing patients, families, and caregivers on home exercise programs, recommending and/or providing assistive equipment, and recommending outpatient or home programs. Quality And Customer Service Greets and welcomes all patients by name with a smile and on time. Ensures documentation is complete and thorough with all patients in accordance with departmental policies and insurance requests. Completes and edits own charges on a daily basis to help ensure accuracy. Participates in mandatory competencies yearly, demonstrated by attendance and test, and participates in monthly chart audits. M sustains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies. Develops physical therapy staff by providing information and conducting in-service training programs. Other Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements. Keeps current with insurance demands, restrictions, and authorizations and educates patients of their insurance. Teaches/leads physical therapy students and others in health professions; educates other health care providers on Physical Therapy. Directs and supervises PTAs, delegating specific patients and establishing communication channels. Consults and practices with other health professionals for the overall wellbeing of the mutual patient. Travels to off-site approved locations as needed to provide therapy services and other wellness programs. Completes all required annual education on or before the due date. Knowledge Skills and Abilities Minimal physical effort required with occasional light lifting to a maximum of 50 pounds; stooping; and pick, pinch, type, or otherwise work primarily with fingers. Ability to effectively manage considerable mental stress. Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and convey information in a clear, concise and accurate manner. Familiarity with computer and other business machines. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s and/or Master’s and/or Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from an APTA-accredited institution.
