Application will remain open until filled, however, Priority Deadline for Consideration: Sept. 18. 2026 Position Information Job Title Position Summary The New Student Mentor works as a member of the TXWES Orientation team and serves as a peer leader who supports the planning and facilitation of New Student Registration Days and Ram Camp. This position helps incoming students transition successfully to Texas Wesleyan University by building relationships, leading small groups through the orientation experience, and modeling positive, professional, and welcoming customer service. The position also helps the student employee build leadership, communication, and event-support skills while supporting the university’s mission of student success. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Build relationships with new students to support their transition to Texas Wesleyan University, serving as an approachable, positive, and reliable point of contact throughout the orientation process. Lead a small group of new students throughout their orientation experience, guiding them through Ram Camp and New Student Registration Days activities and helping them build connections with peers. Attend and actively participate in all required trainings during the semester and summer, and all Orientation dates, including Ram Camp and mid-year and summer New Student Registration Days. Work with fellow New Student Mentors and Orientation staff to plan, coordinate, and carry out welcome weekend activities that help incoming students feel supported and included. Encourage and support students, student organizations, academic departments, and campus programs by promoting events and initiatives that benefit the student community and align with the university’s mission. Cultivate and maintain positive, professional working relationships with staff, faculty, and students, and participate in ongoing student leadership development trainings and workshops. Adhere to all university and departmental policies and guidelines, complete other assigned duties, and protect confidential student information in accordance with FERPA . Education, Certifications and/or Licenses Must be enrolled as a student in good standing at Texas Wesleyan University, maintain a minimum semester GPA of 2.0 & cumulative GPA of 2.5 throughout the completion of the contract, and maintain eligibility for student employment in accordance with university policies. Ability to attend all mandatory trainings, New Student Registration Days, and Ram Camp sessions throughout the summer and academic year. Experience Demonstrated experience in orientation, student leadership, event planning, or involvement in student organizations. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Demonstrates initiative by seeking opportunities to grow through leadership and mentorship experiences Ability to balance collaborative and independent work effectively Shows adaptability while supporting a wide range of new-student needs Takes ownership of assigned responsibilities and follows through in a timely manner Excellent written, oral, social media-based, and interpersonal communication skills Ability to discern student needs and respond in a caring, supportive manner Ability to articulate enthusiasm and support for all students within the campus community Outstanding interpersonal and community-building skills Ability to assess student needs during orientation and respond using sound judgment Knowledge and ability to complete assigned tasks thoroughly, appropriately, and in a timely manner Ability to be creative and bring new ideas to the position Possession of strong organizational skills Ability to lead effectively and instruct others in a group setting Demonstrated experience in, or aptitude for, student leadership and event planning encouraged Ability to encourage others and actively participate in the campus community Models a positive, high-energy, and welcoming approach to New Student Programs and Orientation.
