Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network.Scope of RoleImprove existing manufacturing processes, equipment and capabilitiesSupport or lead continuous improvement activities, new materials or process receivership, cost reduction projects, and equipment installs and debugSolve material and process issues in production through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter expertsDocument and share material and process knowledge across organizationsDay to Day ResponsibilitiesProvide engineering-level production support to manufacturing operation and actively engage in plant safety initiatives and projectsSolve process issues through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter expertsProvide engineering expertise for fundamental understanding of manufacturing issuesLead and/or provide support for projects involving cost reduction, process optimization, and new productsDevelop and maintain systems to monitor and proactively address material/equipment/process performance, including trend analysis and implementation plansReceive and integrate new technologies to improve process capability while ensuring proper processes are followed during transferLocation, Hours and Travel RequirementsLocation: Hickory, NCHours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 8 hours/day; 40 hours/weekTravel: Up to 25% to various manufacturing sites in the divisionExperiences/Education - RequiredBS or MS in the following Engineering Disciplines: Materials, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Ceramic Engineering2+ years' experience in Manufacturing EnvironmentAbility to multitask and prioritize work on an independent basis in a fast-paced manufacturing environmentAbility to work effectively on all levels of an organizationUse scientific method and engineering principles to solve problems thoroughly and effectively, using well-designed and executed processesStrong data analysis and statistical skills. Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel, Access, and Minitab, or equivalentDetermine and recommend best solution from a series of alternatives within plant guidelinesStrong communication and presentation skillsExperiences/Education - DesiredSix Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt certificationKnowledge of manufacturing cost accountingProject management experienceSoft SkillsWork well both within a multi-disciplined team, and independently with minimal oversightStrong written and verbal communication skillsPersonal initiative and commitmentOrganized with good planning and time management skillsPositive attitude, flexible and good work ethicThis position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $82,974.00 - $114,090.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.A job that shapes a life.
