Job DescriptionThe Division of Pulmonary Critical Care and Sleep Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Study Coordinator 1 to join their team.About this OpportunityReporting to the Interventional Trials Manager, the Research Study Coordinator will support multiple translational and clinical research studies focused on lung infection, inflammation, immunity, and fibrosis in the Translational and Interventional Trials Research Group at University of Washington Medical Center within the University of Washington’s Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine.The training requirement for this position includes UW Medicine-specific and other training such as Human Subjects Training, Good Clinical Practice, HIPPA, biosafety, bloodborne pathogens etc. and will be provided during position onboarding. The Research Study Coordinator will primarily work at the University of Washington Medical Center – Montlake Campus and occasionally at Harborview Medical Center. This position will require handling of human biospecimens in a class II Biosafety Cabinet.Key Responsibilities:The specific duties are divided as follows:Research Subject Screening for Eligibility and Enrollment - 50%Screening of University of Washington Medical Center patients through the electronic medical record (EMR) on EpicAssessment of research study eligibility per protocol’s inclusion/exclusion criteriaObtainment of informed consent with research subjects or their legal next of kinCoordination of biological sample collection (e.g. respiratory samples, blood, urine, tissue)Close interaction with clinical providers to ensure patient safety and protocol adherenceLeading the establishment of improved screening workflows in collaboration with study teams and clinical staffManaging study regulatory compliance, including compliance with all aspects of Institution and sponsor regulations pertaining to clinical research in human subjectsSpecimen Processing and Management - 30%Leading processing of human biospecimens (e.g. respiratory, blood, tissue, and urine samples) in accordance with established protocolsTracking available human subject biospecimens in existing electronic data capture and sample management databases and confirm that all specimens have been obtained in compliance with approved consent process.Shipping of study specimens and obtaining research specimens from outside researchers in compliance with institution and federal regulations.Establishing biospecimen processing protocols as neededData Entry and Management– 20%Data abstraction from the EMRData entry in study-specific electronic data capture software (e.g. REDCap)Organizing and tracking of samples using existing sample management databases (e.g. Freezerworks)Performing basic database queries to identify specimens and execute sample pulls for analysisDatabase cleaning and organizationPreparation of basic reports for study InvestigatorsRequired Qualifications:To be considered for this opportunity your application must demonstrate you meet both the minimum qualifications and additional qualifications listed below.
