Bioinformatics Scientist I – Inflammation The Allen Institute for Immunology seeks a Bioinformatics Scientist I – Inflammation to analyze Spatial Biology and other OMICS data to better understand inflammatory diseases such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). The role reports to the Director of Informatics & Computational Biology and requires a self‑motivated team player who can work closely with immunologists and bioinformaticians, is an expert in analyzing Spatial Biology transcriptomics, protein, and imaging data, and has a track record of discovering novel biological insights from omics data. Essential Functions Work closely with cross‑functional teams to analyze Spatial Biology and other OMICS data from the Inflammation Program, generate testable hypotheses for disease mechanisms, and identify potential biomarkers and/or drug targets for diseases such as IBD. Implement and/or develop analysis scripts for Spatial Biology data and other OMICS data, including transcriptomics, protein, and imaging. Write reports, research papers, patent applications, and other scientific documents. Represent efforts to stakeholders internally and in external forums. Contribute to a rigorous, scientific, cohesive, and efficient team environment. Required Education and Experience PhD in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational biology, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent combination of degree and experience. Preferred Education and Experience Experience analyzing Spatial Biology data (transcriptomics, protein, imaging). Experience analyzing other OMICS data. Knowledge of molecular biology and/or immunology. Familiarity with Spatial Biology technologies. Track record of discovering novel biological insights from omics data. Foundational knowledge of bioinformatics. Experience with R and/or Python. Strong publication record. Familiarity with advanced statistical methods and machine learning for biomarker discovery. Experience working in a cross‑disciplinary, team‑based environment. Experience collaborating with external partners to achieve defined objectives. Familiarity with cloud computing and/or Linux. Experience using Git or a similar version control system. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and organizational skills. Good problem‑solving skills, curiosity, and eagerness to take on new challenges. Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative, high‑paced environment. Self‑motivated, attentive to details, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Work Environment May enter laboratory environment – possible exposure to chemical, biological, or hazardous substances. Physical Demands Fine motor movements in fingers/hands to operate computers and other office equipment; repetitive motion with lab equipment. Position Type / Expected Hours of Work Occasional evening and weekend hours required. Hybrid work: opportunities to work remotely and onsite in Washington State; remote work must be performed in Washington State. Annualized Salary Range $90,900 – $112,400 (final salary depends on required education, experience, and level of skills, and work location).
