Junior Software DeveloperElectric Boats Software Engineering Group (SEG) is seeking a highly motivated, junior software developer to join a team of like-minded people pushing the boundaries of available applications for submarine design, manufacturing and construction. From initial concept design through implementation, you will be working with product stakeholders, designers and engineers from various disciplines to define the best practical application to suit the needs of the customer/end-user as well as be innovative, impactful and cost beneficial to the company and other organizations alike. You will be creating software applications that make our company work effectively and efficiently at what we do which is designing and constructing the worlds finest submarines for the United States Navy.The core responsibilities include:Work with end users and the development teams to define, plan and build complex applications (typically using Java and Javascript/Typescript).Translation of the requirements, UI/UX designs and high-fidelity prototypes to produce visual elements of the application and desired behavior.Writing well designed, testable, efficient code by using best software development practices.Promoting strict code peer review practices as well as testing and validation to ensure high-quality coding standards.Maintenance of software applications throughout the lifecycle of the productResponsibilitiesEnthusiasm for working in high performing team environment and collaborating with customers and end-users to define scope and designAbility to work patiently within established government processes and timelinesAbility to quickly learn complex logistical concepts and adapt design solutions to fit changing needsTeam-oriented mindset and willingness to work in a multi-disciplinary teamAwareness of latest development trends and technologiesSelf-motivated to learn new skills for solving complex/challenging problemsLanguages: Java, Javascript/TypescriptDatabases: OracleTechnologies: Jira, Git, Gradle, IDEs, and web-based frameworksQualificationsRequired:Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering0-2 years of hands-on experience developing java applications and/or responsive web applicationsAbility to obtain and maintain a Secret Level Security Clearance through the Department of DefensePreferred:Java and/or web-based application development using Javascript/TypescriptExperience developing applications with Oracle/SQL databases using programming languages such as Java, JavaScript/Typescript, and ReactExperience or knowledge of Agile development methodologiesA solid understanding of how applications work including security, session management, and best development practicesExperience in DevOps CI/CD pipelines is advantageousExperience with automated testing, e.g. Selenium, jUnit.
