Position: Neuro Stepdown Nurse

Shift: Day 3x12-Hour (07:00 - 19:30)

Job Description

We are seeking a highly qualified Neuro Stepdown Nurse to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in stepdown or telemetry nursing with a focus on neurological patients. This position requires excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialized nursing care to neuro stepdown and telemetry patients.
• Monitor patient conditions, administer medications, and manage treatment plans.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including IV teams, Physical Therapy, and Respiratory Services.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation using Epic charting system.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and infection control measures.
• Participate in rapid response and emergency care as needed.

Qualifications

• Licensure: Current CA RN License required.
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a Stepdown or Telemetry unit required; travel experience preferred.
• Previous Charge Experience: Preferred.
• Patient Ratios: Experience with ratios of 1:3-5.
• Community Hospital Experience: Required.
• Trauma Level Experience: Level I & II preferred.

Skills

• Accessing and managing ports.
• BiPAP/CPAP management.
• Blood product administration.
• Central line care and management.
• Telemetry monitoring.
• Patient care for various neurological conditions including strokes, seizures, and spinal cord injuries.

Unit Details

The position is within a 30-bed neuro stepdown unit with a daily census of approximately 29 patients, servicing both adult and geriatric populations. A mixed ratio is maintained with 3:1 for stepdown patients and 4:1 for telemetry patients.

Additional Information

• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend.
• On-Call: As needed.
• Orientation Hours: 12 hours.
