Interconnection Manager

About the role We’re looking for an Interconnection Manager on behalf of our client. This is a 1‑year contract assignment (W‑2). You will actively participate in two generator interconnection processes: the Mid‑Continent Independent System Operator (MISO) and the Southwest Power Pool (SPP). Your role will involve overseeing the full life cycle of development and construction of projects and is critical for the successful execution of new generating asset growth within the MISO and SPP regions. As an experienced technical team member, you will collaborate with internal project developers/originators and external entities including the ISO and Transmission Owners (TO). You will report to the onsite Manager. Key Responsibilities Manage generator interconnections, including interconnection application filing, queue management, system impact study review, and generator interconnection agreement negotiation and amendments. Provide subject‑matter expertise and support for growth projects, including diligence for mergers & acquisitions and greenfield projects. Power systems background with an understanding of transmission planning and NERC reliability standards. Experience with steady‑state thermal/voltage, short‑circuit, transient stability using industry analytical tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, PowerGEM TARA, TSAT, and ASPEN. Understand the planning processes within RTOs/ISOs and Transmission Providers, especially relating to baseline reliability planning and generator interconnection studies. Coordinate with multiple internal and external SMEs to complete comprehensive planning. Understand transmission policy and regulatory issues related to generator interconnection. Provide solutions for technical transmission issues for development projects and current assets. Manage the generator interconnection application process, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and timelines. Coordinate with all partners, including ISO/RTOs, developers, and utility companies, to facilitate seamless interconnections. Develop and implement strategies to improve the generator interconnection process. Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and technological advancements to inform strategic planning. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Demonstrated experience and working relationship with ISOs (preferred MISO and/or SPP) or local utilities in roles related to generator or load interconnection agreements, utility and ISO interconnection study methodology, criteria, business practices, and transmission planning with a focus on grid reliability.
