Community Engagement Manager

Overview Founded in 2004, the Fairmount Indigo CDC Collaborative (FICC) (ficcaction.org) is a collaborative made up of three Boston‑based community development corporations (CDCs): Codman Square Neighborhood Development Corporation, Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation, and Southwest Boston Community Development Corporation. FICC's mission is to strengthen vibrant, sustainable neighborhoods united by the Fairmount/Indigo Commuter Rail Line. FICC seeks to advance racial, climate, and health equity and justice in our communities through: increased affordable housing; excellent public transit; pathways to good jobs and financial resilience; sustainability innovations; expanded green space and opportunities for active living; and vibrant public places. To see these objectives through, FICC organizes local residents, engages in state- and local‑level policy advocacy, and coordinates action with neighborhood partners, public agencies, and other stakeholders.FICC is a fiscally sponsored project of TSNE (tsne.org). Responsibilities Essential Functions Community Outreach and Engagement Lead virtual and in‑person outreach efforts to connect with residents, tenant associations, and grassroots partners across Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, and Hyde Park. Use a variety of outreach methods—including phone calls, flyering, door‑knocking, and in‑person canvassing to reach residents who may not be active online. Serve as the point person for community engagement events and activities, providing welcoming, equitable spaces and addressing barriers to participation. Organize regular community workshops, gatherings, and listening sessions that reflect residents’ priorities and FICC’s mission. Represent FICC at community meetings, neighborhood coalitions, and local convenings. Gather feedback from community members and stakeholders to refine programs and inform planning. Resident Leadership and Advocacy Recruit, train, and support residents to participate in policy advocacy and community organizing efforts. Coordinate turnout and testimony for public hearings, legislative campaigns, and direct actions. Help co‑facilitate resident‑led advocacy groups, ensuring inclusive processes and alignment with FICC’s shared policy priorities. Help track key local and state legislation related to climate, health, and environmental justice. Event Planning and Program Implementation Plan and execute in‑person and virtual events focused on climate resilience, health equity, and sustainable community development. Manage event logistics, promotion, and evaluation, ensuring events are accessible, impactful, and well‑attended. Collaborate with the Director of Climate Justice, EDs/CEOs and staff of the member CDCs to align events with strategic goals and community needs. Communications and Digital Engagement Oversee and execute FICC’s social media strategy, including creating and posting engaging content across Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, and TikTok. Manage FICC’s monthly e‑newsletter and other digital updates. Engage with residents and community partners through digital platforms to promote campaigns, events, and storytelling. Track engagement metrics and refine strategies to grow FICC’s reach and visibility. Strategic and Organizational Support Support the Director of Climate Justice with program strategy, community engagement planning, and team coordination. Contribute to the development and review of work plans, grant proposals, and community‑based programming. Participate in organizational learning, planning, and evaluation activities. Administrative and Grant Support Contribute to the preparation of grant proposals by providing program descriptions, event summaries, and community engagement data. Support the Director of Climate Justice in tracking and compiling relevant metrics, resident participation, and impact stories for grant reports and funder updates. Maintain organized records of outreach activities, attendance logs, photos, and communications content for internal and external use. Provide timely updates and documentation for monthly internal reporting and other shared deliverables. Qualifications We will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below. At least 3 years of experience in community engagement, grassroots organizing, program coordination, or advocacy Strong relationship‑building, communication, and public speaking skills Demonstrated experience planning and executing events and/or workshops Proficiency with digital communication tools including social media platforms and document collaboration software like Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a collaborative team Availability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed Commitment to racial equity, environmental justice, and community‑driven change Ability to work in person in neighborhoods within the Fairmount Corridor, including at the offices of member CDCs Preferred Qualifications Experience in policy advocacy, legislative tracking, or civic engagement Graphic design or digital media production skills (e.g., Canva, video editing, photography) Experience using outreach and advocacy tools like Mailchimp and Action Network Knowledge of Boston’s Fairmount Corridor neighborhoods (Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, Hyde Park) Bilingual in Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Cape Verdean Creole Physical Demands/Work Environment Handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; Reach; traverse; sit (usually for longer periods of time); occasionally ascend/descend; and position self (to) move; Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; Job is not subject to significant occupational or environmental hazards; Likelihood of personal injury would be relatively slight; Environmental and work hazards are not present to a measurable degree. Compensation and Benefits Location: This is a hybrid position that requires the ability to work in physical environments and travel within the greater‑Boston area; including the headquarters of each of the member CDCs, as well as attending in‑person meetings, events, and site visits across Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, and Hyde Park, and Boston more broadly. Start Date: Ideal start day for this position is August 2026 Compensation: The starting salary for this position is $30.00/hr to $33.48/hr and is commensurate with experience.
