PURPOSE

This position is responsible for receiving and inspecting materials, issuing materials, storing equipment and materials, and conducting inventories.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

1. Operate a variety of material handling equipment such as forklifts, boom trucks, flatbed trucks and hand trucks for issuance and receipt of materials and supplies.

2. Count, sort, or weigh incoming articles to verify receipt of items on requisitions or invoices with attention to detail and accuracy.

3. Examine and inspect stock to verify specification conformance and document overage, shortage and damaged materials.

4. Store articles in bins, on floor, or on shelves, according to identifying information.

5. Fill orders or issue supplies from stock.

6. Participate in annual inventory of stock; participate in daily inventory counts as requested.

7. Requisition materials or equipment to fill requests.

8. May mark identifying codes, figures, or letters on materials or equipment.

9. May distribute stock among construction workers, keeping records of material issued.

10. May make repairs to small tools.

11. When working with internal/external stakeholders, must provide a professional level of service in such a manner to reflect favorably on the Association and to assure quality service to the membership.

12. Must be able to respond appropriately to circumstances with internal/external stakeholders.

13. May determine methods of storage, identification, and stock location, considering temperature, humidity, height and weight limits, turnover, floor loading capacities, and required space.

14. May move or transport material or supplies to other departments, using hand or industrial truck.

15. Maintain acceptable attendance in accordance with Association policy and current agreements.

16. Promotes a safety culture in which safety is a value. This culture is based on joint and individual engagement, ownership, and accountability regarding job safety and responsibility to perform work safely and adhere to safe work practices.

17. Performs the essential functions of the position in a safe and efficient manner.

ESSENTIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

· Qualified candidates are required to have:

- A high school diploma or equivalent.

- A valid driver’s license, with a current Class A CDL with airbrake endorsement.

- A driving record, which is acceptable by the Association’s Driving Policy and insurable by the Association and the Association’s insurance carrier at standard group rates.

- An annual consent for release of one’s driving records is also required.

- A current Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC).

· Preference may be given to those candidates with:

- Warehouse or inventory control monitoring experience.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

· Knowledge of relevant software programs/applications.

· Knowledge of relevant manuals.

· Skill and ability in communicating with diverse audiences.

· Skill and ability with relevant equipment, such as forklifts, etc.

· Skill in identifying various line maintenance materials.

· Skill in practical application of mathematical functions required in warehouse work.

· Skill in data entry and operation of tracking and/or barcode programs on scanning equipment.

· Skill in self-motivating improvement based on successes and failures.

· Ability to multitask.

· Ability to determine time, place, and sequence of deliveries.

· Ability to complete various digital/technical tasks.

· Ability to use various software to include Microsoft Office Suite.

· Ability to facilitate cooperation between work groups and work functionally across all levels of the organization.

· Ability to analyze processes for efficiency and recommend improvements.

· Embrace and embody the Association’s Core Values through decisions, actions, attitude, and behavior to directly contribute to the success of the organization.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

· The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; this list is not inclusive of all the physical demands that may be required. · Physical demand activity percentages:

- Major occurs 60% or more of work time.

- Moderate occurs between 20-60% of work time.

- Minor occurs less than 20% of work time.

· Physical demand requirements:

- Ability to understand, read, and carry out written instructions.

- Ability to understand, read, and verify documents electronically, verbally, or hard copy.

- Major amount of standing, walking, lifting up to 100 pounds, carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing up to or around 20 pounds, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, turning/twisting, bending at waist, handling of items, finger use, feeling/touching, eye-hand coordination, foot-hand-eye coordination, hearing, and seeing (near/far).

- Moderate amount of stair climbing, ladder climbing, communicating, and depth perception.

- Minor amount of sitting.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

· The work environment conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

· This position works both in a warehouse setting and outside in variable weather conditions.

· The incumbent must be able to work in variable weather conditions including, but not limited to rain, high winds, temperatures in excess of 80 degrees Fahrenheit and minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit, large amounts of snow, possibly over long periods of time and in darkness, etc.

· This position is subject to insect bites and stings.

· The incumbent must be able to work long hours under stressful conditions when restoring power during storms, outages, or other emergency conditions.

· The incumbent must be able to work scheduled overtime and be able to respond to overtime call outs before and after standard scheduled hours of work.

 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS

 

· This position is classified as a non-exempt, represented position, and is eligible for overtime compensation based on both Federal and State of Alaska laws. All Association employees are expected to work widely varying amounts of either (1) unscheduled overtime such as during power restoration activities; or, (2) scheduled overtime required to accomplish special projects.
