Summary/objective

The main duties of the Community Engagement Coordinator are to provide clerical, administrative, and programmatic support. This position works closely with Community Engagement Interns, the Community Engagement Manager, and Teaching Artists as well as other departments, specifically the Artistic staff, School of Ballet Arizona, Marketing, and Box Office in addition to outside agencies for the purpose of research, coordination, and general support of programming. Work requires strong communication skills, effective time-management, organizational skills, and working knowledge of ballet of the art of ballet for the purpose of providing dance instruction in traditional and non-traditional dance spaces to individuals of all ages and abilities.

• Accurately input, compile and analyze data
• Maintain positive relations with existing community partners
• Manage logistics for on and off-site community events or programs, such as scheduling, registration, internal/external communication, and day-of coordination • Collaborate and supply content related to community engagement initiatives for Company newsletters, social media, collateral, and other correspondences as directed by the Director of Community Engagement
• Assist with invoice submission and processing program payments for field trips and departmental expenses
• Gather and implement different modes of evaluation, including testimonial and data-driven information at community events or programs for reporting needs
• Utilize Tessitura for Ticketing/Reporting functions
• Perform general office/clerical duties including, but not limited to: answering phone and email inquiries; and various project deliverables; update and maintain documentation; enter data into database as required
• Maintain polite and professional communication
• Support Community Engagement programs, including preparation, implementation, delivery, teaching, or coordination of programs on and off-site under the direction of the Director of Community Engagement, in particular Angel Night, Hoop Dance, for Native American Youth, Dance for Parkinson’s Disease, and Adaptive Dance
• Teach and/or assist with ballet classes for diverse ages and abilities, including in classes that take place non-traditional dance spaces including but not limited to DanceAZ, Creative Aging, classroom visits, and residencies
• Assist with delivery of lectures and lecture demonstrations including lecture/lecture demonstration preparation, implementation, and delivery
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• As a Teaching Artist, applicant must:
• Have a strong understanding of ballet technique
• Have teaching experience
• Have experience creating choreographic phrases
• Have a confident presence and positive and inclusive classroom management skills
• Understand the developmental needs of children and are capable of tailoring instruction to support different learners
• Are committed to culturally responsive and inclusive teaching practices, and to creating classrooms in which every student is seen, valued, and feels that they belong
• Have experience with (or a willingness to learn) lesson planning and designing units of instruction
• Are flexible, and able to adapt to the needs and strengths of different school communities
• Believe that individuals of all ages are dancers and capable of achieving success in and through dance

Supervisory responsibilities

• This position does not have any direct reports.

Work environment

• Work is conducted primarily in an office setting and at partner sites in the community. Event support at the main office location and at external event sites is required.
• Some weekends, nights, or on-call work are required.

Physical demands

• Physical requirements include sitting for long periods of time and heavy computer usage.
• Medium physical effort is required – must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.

Travel required

• Travel to and from external event sites (within Maricopa County) is required.
• Must be willing and able to commute to and from the office, program, and partner sites on a regular basis.

Required education and experience

• High School Diploma or GED
• Working knowledge of Classical Ballet
• Background in dance, experience teaching dance (in public schools or nontraditional settings preferred), or formal education in dance/dance education

Preferred education and experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
• Proficiency in Spanish desirable
• Experience with Tessitura desirable

Additional eligibility requirements

• Applicants must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel throughout the
• Greater Phoenix Area as needed for program delivery, meetings, and other needs.

Work authorization/security clearance requirements

• Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Applicants must have or be able to obtain Arizona Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance.
