Compliance Director (Affordable Housing/Multi-Family) Corporate Full Time $80,000 - $100,000 per year Gaithersburg, MD, United States We are seeking a knowledgeable and driven Compliance Director to lead compliance operations across a multifamily affordable housing portfolio. This role partners closely with compliance, property management, and ownership teams to ensure full adherence to LIHTC, HUD, and other affordable housing program regulations. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Compliance, the Compliance Director will oversee daily compliance functions, manage a team of compliance professionals, and serve as a key technical resource to ensure operational excellence and regulatory compliance across all communities. Key Responsibilities Lead, manage, and mentor compliance managers and specialists, fostering a high-performing and accountable team Oversee and certify all initial household eligibility files through first-year recertification for new and re-syndicated LIHTC properties Ensure all resident files, records, and waitlists are maintained in accordance with governing agency standards Build and maintain strong relationships with investors, state housing agencies, HUD, PHAs, and other regulatory partners Establish and oversee audit, review, and pre-occupancy approval processes for household certifications across all affordable housing programs (LIHTC, Section 8, HOME, Bonds, etc.) Conduct and oversee file audits for LIHTC (Section 42), HUD programs, and applicable state and local requirements Provide compliance guidance and technical support to property managers and regional teams Deliver regular reporting and updates to the Vice President of Compliance regarding team performance and compliance status Maintain expert-level knowledge of all affordable housing programs within the portfolio and ensure proper implementation of compliance procedures Oversee all compliance-related reporting, including annual LIHTC submissions to state agencies Ensure accuracy and completion of all compliance processes, including: Move-ins, Annual and interim recertifications, Gross rent changes, Terminations, Initial certifications Monitor waitlists and EIV systems to ensure compliance with federal regulations Assist with preparation and submission of HUD documentation, including AFHMPs, Tenant Selection Plans, and lease packages Deliver exceptional customer service in all interactions with residents, prospects, and internal teams Perform additional duties as assigned Qualifications & Experience Minimum 5+ years of experience in compliance oversight within HUD-assisted and LIHTC multifamily housing Prior leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred Strong knowledge of LIHTC, HUD programs, and other affordable housing regulations Proven ability to interpret and apply complex regulatory requirements in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with executives, ownership groups, and regulatory agencies Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage priorities, and drive results Ability to handle 6,000 - 9,000 units Technical Skills Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) Certifications HCCP, SHCM, C3P, COS, CPO, BOS, or equivalent Education Bachelor’s degree preferred (not required) Strong written and verbal communication skills in English Solid mathematical and analytical abilities required Deep understanding of LIHTC regulations, IRS 8823 Guide, and HUD 4350.3 Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail Ability to work effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced environment Self-starter with strong ownership mentality and problem-solving skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines #J-18808-Ljbffr
