Machine Shop Operator
Operate computer-controlled machines or robots to perform one or more machine functions on metal or plastic work pieces.
Duties:
- Performs all assigned machine shop operations
- Setup and operate machinery to cut shape or form metal to specifications and ensure conformity of finished work.
- Selects, aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders and shapers
- Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut or enters commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media
- Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to management or designee
- Remove workpieces from machines, and check to ensure that they conform to specifications, using measuring instruments such as microscopes, gauges, calipers, and micrometers.
- Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follows prescribed
- Performs inspection of machined products, and documents results
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Mechanical aptitude
- Familiarity using micrometers and calipers
- Ability to read and understand blueprints
- Willing to learn to become proficient in operating applicable equipment
- Quality and detail oriented
- Excellent mathematical skills
