Teaching Associate (TA) for the Department of Animal Sciences and Agricultural Education The Department of Animal Sciences and Agricultural Education seeks graduate students to serve as Teaching Associates. Teaching Associates provide classroom instruction and support teaching duties. Eligibility depends on successful TA eligibility, department eligibility, and adequate funding. The department reserves the right to select the most qualified candidate for each position and to assign TAs to courses appropriate to the department’s program and curriculum in any given semester. Course offerings may vary; no guarantee of employment from semester to semester can be made. Anticipated Appointment Dates Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026 Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027 Hours/Units per Week Students may work up to 20 hours per week: 1 unit = 2.66 hours per week Typical range for labs: 1.3‑5.2 units Typical range for lectures: 3‑6 units No more than 7.5 units Job Duties Instruct and manage the classroom or laboratory. Maintain office hours. Prepare and administer assignments and examinations. Assess student performance and determine course grades. Assist students outside of class or laboratory hours. Attend faculty meetings for briefing, coordination, and discussion of course content. Participate in distance learning activities. Perform other assignments supportive of university instruction. Qualifications Admission to the Master’s Program in the Department of Animal Sciences and Agricultural Education and good academic standing. Enrollment in at least 6 units for the semester or in two courses toward the degree. Demonstrated satisfactory progress toward the degree. Ability to relate well with others and to learn instructions and evaluation techniques. Commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level. Expertise in a closely related natural science discipline.
