Associate Instructor in Mechanical Engineering/Engineering: AY 26-27

Position overview Position title: Associate Instructor Salary range: See Table 19 for the salary range for this position. Salary is normally based on an annual full-time salary at Salary Point 6 of $85,898; see Table 19 for the full range of salary points. Associate Instructors will not be appointed for more than 50% time during the Fall & Spring semesters. Percent time: 25% - 50% Anticipated start: Fall 2026 - August 1, 2026; Spring 2027 - January 1, 2027 Position duration: Duration may be up to one semester. Position description The School of Engineering anticipates hiring Associate Instructors for lower- and upper-division courses for Academic Year 2026-2027 in the following disciplines: Mechanical Engineering Engineering Fundamentals (courses may include the following: Introduction to Materials, Statics and Dynamics, Circuit Theory, Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Strength of Materials, Spatial Analysis, Information Systems, etc.) Under supervision of a faculty member, the Associate Instructor will be responsible for leading instruction of a course. Additional duties may include grading, leading discussion sections when appropriate and holding office hours. The University of California Associate Instructors are represented by the UAW-AFL-CIO. Qualifications One year of Teaching Assistant experience. Master's degree in the subject area or a related field or Advanced to Candidacy for the Ph.D. Maintenance of a qualifying grade point average. Academically eligible to hold the appointment (as outlined in the Graduate Policies and Procedures Handbook). Must be a registered UC Merced graduate student in full-time residence (registered for 12 units per term appointed). Must have passed an Oral English Proficiency Examination (if applicable).
