Safety Coordinator

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting and promoting a strong safety culture across Ascension Property Services operations. This position assists with the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of the Company's safety programs while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA requirements.

The Safety Coordinator serves as a field-based safety resource for operations leadership, supervisors, and employees. Responsibilities include identifying workplace hazards, conducting inspections and audits, supporting incident investigations, providing safety training, maintaining safety documentation, and assisting operations with the implementation of effective corrective and preventive actions.

The Safety Coordinator is expected to maintain a visible presence in the field and work collaboratively with operations leadership to integrate safety into daily work activities. The position supports the Company's commitment to protecting employees, customers, the public, and Company assets.

Essential Responsibilities:

Safety Program Management:

• Support the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of Company safety policies, procedures, programs, and initiatives.
• Conduct job hazard analyses, risk assessments, and other hazard evaluations as required.
• Identify workplace hazards and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive measures.
• Assist operations leadership in implementing Company safety requirements and applicable OSHA standards.
• Monitor compliance with Company safety policies, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Maintain current knowledge of applicable OSHA regulations, industry standards, and construction safety practices.
• Assist with the development and revision of safety programs, procedures, forms, and training materials.
• Assist with the implementation of Company safety initiatives and continuous improvement programs.
• Complete customer-required administrative safety documentation through applicable programs, portals, and applications to maintain compliance.
• Immediately communicate serious or potentially serious safety concerns to appropriate management.

Training and Employee Development:

• Conduct new-employee safety orientations and required safety training.
• Deliver toolbox talks, safety meetings, refresher training, and other safety education as assigned.
• Assist supervisors and field leadership in identifying employee safety training needs.
• Develop and maintain safety training materials consistent with Company requirements, regulatory standards, and industry practices.
• Maintain accurate records of employee safety training, certifications, and qualifications.
• Verify that required employee training and certifications remain current.
• Promote employee participation and engagement in Company safety programs.
• Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of safety training and recommend improvements when necessary.

Job Site Inspections and Compliance:

• Conduct regular job site inspections to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and unsafe work practices.
• Inspect equipment, tools, personal protective equipment, and work areas for compliance with Company and regulatory requirements.
• Document inspection findings and communicate required corrective actions to appropriate operations personnel.
• Conduct follow-up inspections to verify that identified deficiencies have been corrected.
• Conduct or assist with internal safety audits.
• Participate in customer and general contractor safety audits as assigned.
• Assist operations with preparation for regulatory, customer, and third-party inspections.
• Serve as a Company safety representative during applicable regulatory inspections, audits, and investigations.
• Escalate serious or uncontrolled hazards to appropriate management and recommend immediate corrective action, including suspension of affected work when warranted by the severity of the hazard.

Incident Investigation and Corrective Action:

• Assist with the investigation of employee injuries, occupational illnesses, property damage, vehicle incidents, near misses, and other safety-related events.
• Participate in determining contributing factors and root causes.
• Assist in developing corrective and preventive actions designed to prevent recurrence.
• Track corrective actions to completion and verify their effectiveness.
• Maintain accurate and complete incident documentation.
• Assist with required OSHA, customer, insurance, and Company reporting.
• Monitor incident trends and identify opportunities for injury and incident prevention.
• Prepare safety reports, summaries, and performance metrics for management review.
• Communicate lessons learned from incidents and near misses to appropriate personnel.

Safety Communication and Field Support:

• Serve as a safety resource and point of contact for assigned operations.
• Partner with operations leadership, project managers, superintendents, foremen, supervisors, and field employees to address safety concerns.
• Provide practical guidance regarding safe work practices, regulatory requirements, and Company expectations.
• Maintain regular communication with field leadership regarding safety performance and areas requiring improvement.
• Promote open communication regarding hazards, near misses, incidents, and safety concerns.
• Participate in the Company's safety committee and other safety-related meetings.
• Support Company safety campaigns and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Encourage employees to actively participate in maintaining a safe workplace.
• Promote accountability while maintaining a coaching and educational approach to safety.

Documentation and Administrative Responsibilities:

• Maintain accurate safety records, inspection documentation, training records, incident files, and corrective-action documentation.
• Assist with OSHA recordkeeping and related documentation as assigned.
• Maintain documentation required by customers, general contractors, regulatory agencies, and the Company.
• Utilize Company safety management systems, software, portals, and applications to document and track safety activities.
• Complete customer-specific safety requirements and administrative submissions within required timeframes.
• Prepare reports, presentations, and other safety documentation as requested by the Director of Safety.
• Maintain confidentiality of employee, customer, and Company information.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate's or bachelor's degree in occupational safety, Safety Management, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years of construction safety experience preferred.
• Previous experience working in a construction trade, field supervision, or construction operations is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and work with field employees, supervisors, and management.
• Demonstrated ability to identify hazards and implement practical safety solutions in active construction environments.

OSHA Training and Certifications:

• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Outreach training required within six (6) months of hire if not already obtained.
• OSHA #510 – Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry required within one (1) year of hire.
• OSHA #500 – Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Construction required when the employee meets the applicable OSHA prerequisites and eligibility requirements, as determined by the applicable OSHA Training Institute Education Center.

Note:

OSHA #500 eligibility requires completion of OSHA #510 and the applicable construction safety experience requirements. Employees will be expected to pursue OSHA #500 once eligible and as directed by the Company.
