Senior Psychiatric Physician Specialist
The Department of Public Health seeks a Senior Psychiatric Physician Specialist to provide direct psychiatric care, clinical consultation, and leadership across multiple inpatient and outpatient settings within the San Francisco Health Network. The role involves intensive clinical management, interdisciplinary collaboration, and participation in quality improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct psychiatric care and consultation.
- Assess, diagnose, and provide psychiatric treatment in an intensive care management setting, including field work and collaboration with families.
- Work closely with an intensive care management team using a variety of therapeutic skills, including behavioral, environmental, and psychopharmacological modalities.
- Monitor a caseload of clients and provide cross coverage for other psychiatrists.
- Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Participate in clinic quality improvement activities.
- Serve as a liaison with community behavioral health providers and hospital-based psychiatric teams.
- May supervise a section or unit of a larger medical facility or program.
- May supervise other physicians and professional personnel.
- May perform other duties as assigned or required.
How to Qualify
Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a valid license to practice medicine issued by the Medical Board of California or the Osteopathic Medical Board of California.
- Successful completion of a residency program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or the American Osteopathic Association in a psychiatric medical specialty area.
- Possession of a valid Drug Enforcement Agency registration with the United States Department of Justice (Special Condition).
*Applicants possessing a valid license to practice medicine issued from another state may apply, but if selected, the candidate will not be appointed until obtaining a valid California license.
**Applicants still enrolled in a residency program may apply, but if selected, the candidate will not be appointed until demonstrating successful completion of a residency program.

Conditions of Employment
- Must be eligible to participate in Medicare, Medicaid, and/or other federal health care programs.
- Must possess a National Provider Identifier (NPI).
- Must submit a completed credentialing application and/or required documentation for credentialing.
- Must possess a valid third‑party billable provider certification (e.g., Medicare, Medi‑Cal, or private insurance) or have submitted a completed billable provider application with the required documentation to obtain appropriate billable provider status.
These criteria and conditions of employment must be met within two weeks prior to the start work date to avoid delay of the appointment or cancellation of the employment offer.
