Job Summary:

The Department of Pharmacy at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking an hourly/per diem Pharmacy Assistant / Pharmacy Technician. The successful candidate will:

• Assist in filling medication orders for inpatients.
• Maintain stock of pharmaceutical and related supplies.
• Process charges and generate computer shelf labels for inventory management.
• Assist in managing proper profiling for the patient.
• Maintain supplies in the pharmacy work area.
• Assist in the preparation of parenteral solutions as needed using compounding technology.
• Assist in the preparation of extemporaneous pharmaceuticals.
• Maintain supplies in Pharmacy work area.
• Assist in the preparation of parenteral solutions as needed utilizing compounding technology.
• Maintain prescription files.
• Assist the pharmacist in answering drug information service.
• Participate in nursing station inspections.
• Participate in unit dose cassette exchange system and Pyxis replenishment.
• Assist the pharmacist in the parenteral admixture lab.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must fulfill one of the following in order to meet minimum qualifications:

• New York State Pharmacy Technician License and National Pharmacy Technician Certification.
• National Pharmacy Technician Certification plus 6-months of Pharmacy Technician experience, and New York State Pharmacy Technician license within 6-months.
• 1-year of Pharmacy Technician experience (or successful completion of a military or other accredited Pharmacy Technician training program). Will be required to receive the National Pharmacy Technician Certification within 18-months of hire and New York State Pharmacy Technician License within 6-months of national certification.
