Systems Engineer (VMware / Storage / Backup)Job#: 3038011Location: Dahlgren, VAClearance: Active Top Secret Clearance RequiredSalary: $115,000 - $130,000Our client is seeking a Systems Engineer to support a large-scale Department of Defense (DoD) environment in Dahlgren, VA. This role is responsible for the design, administration, and optimization of enterprise infrastructure platforms, including VMware virtualization, enterprise storage solutions, and backup/recovery systems supporting mission‑critical operations. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with VMware vSphere, enterprise storage technologies such as NetApp or VAST Data, and backup solutions including Rubrik. This position offers the opportunity to support a highly visible DoD environment while working on infrastructure modernization and operational‑excellence initiatives.Responsibilities Design, implement, and maintain VMware vSphere environmentsAdminister and optimize enterprise storage platforms, including NetApp and/or VAST DataManage and maintain Rubrik backup and disaster recovery solutionsSupport infrastructure modernization and IT transition initiativesDevelop and maintain technical documentation, system designs, and standard operating proceduresEnsure systems comply with security and accreditation requirementsTroubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues in collaboration with support teamsDevelop system specifications, design documentation, test plans, technical reports, and related artifactsSupport storage area network (SAN) operations, including LUN provisioning, zoning, snapshots, and virtualization technologiesAssist with monitoring, logging, and operational visibility initiativesRequired Qualifications 3+ years of Systems Engineering or Infrastructure Engineering experienceExperience supporting VMware vSphere environmentsExperience with enterprise storage solutions such as NetApp or VAST DataExperience administering backup and disaster recovery platforms, preferably RubrikUnderstanding of SAN technologies, storage provisioning, snapshots, and zoningStrong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skillsExperience creating technical documentation and system design artifactsKnowledge of DoD cybersecurity requirements, including STIGs and SCAPCompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent DoD 8570 IAT Level II certificationActive Top Secret security clearanceU.S. Citizenship requiredPreferred Qualifications Experience with Splunk administration, monitoring, or log analysisScripting experience using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar toolsExperience supporting DoD enterprise infrastructure environmentsEverforth Apex Systems is an equal‑opportunity employer.
