Software Engineer, Full Stack

POSITION LOCATION & DURATION:This is a six-month hybrid (one day a week onsite in San Carlos, CA) contract role with hourly compensation. There is potential to extend or convert to full-time based on performance and business needs.POSITION SUMMARY: As a Software Engineer, Full Stack you will design, develop, and maintain full-stack software applications, APIs, and data services that support our Sample Management and analytics platform. You have experience building user-facing web applications and have a passion for great user experience with a great eye for design. You're comfortable leveraging APIs and services, local and cloud-based, to deliver these experiences to users. You'll use these skills, along with tools like React, TypeScript, Python, FastAPI, Snowflake, dbt, AWS (ECS Fargate, Lambda, S3), and AWS CDK. Together with the talented Engineering Team, Product Managers and Designers, you will work on new and exciting experiences for our customers.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Work closely with the architecture and product teams to drive complex system designPerform code reviews and mentor the development team with best practicesMake key design and technical implementation decisions on complex systems and help guide engineering visionWork closely with stakeholders to define requirements, and transform them into highly scalable and reliable, developer-friendly REST microservice APIsDesign, build, and maintain highly sustainable systems to support our business applications, including data pipelines and analytics services on SnowflakeQUALIFICATIONS: 5+ years of overall software development experience, preferably secure, scalable web applications with frontend and backend web technologiesThe following are specifically desirable:Experience with TypeScriptExperience with Python and modern backend frameworks, especially FastAPI (with Pydantic and Uvicorn)Experience designing and building RESTful APIsExperience with React for frontend development, ideally with Material UI and ViteExperience with Docker, AWS ECS (Fargate), and infrastructure-as-code using AWS CDKExperience with cloud providers, AWS is preferredExperience with data warehousing and analytics, especially Snowflake and dbtExperience with databases including SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and cloud data platformsExperience with micro-service enterprise architecture, cross-platform integration, and building scalable applications in heterogeneous environmentsExperience with the software development lifecycle process from build, software configuration, change control, and release and deployment activitiesStrong relational database skills including database design and optimizationDemonstrated teamwork skills with a solid analytical backgroundExcellent organizational, communication, presentation, and facilitation skillsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESFull-stack web application programmingJavaScript / TypeScriptPython (FastAPI, Pydantic, Pandas)React (with Material UI, built via Vite)Relational Database and SQL Programming, prefer PostgreSQL or MySQLSnowflake and dbt for data warehousing and transformationREST APIs and other web service backend technologiesAWS infrastructureAWS Services, such as ECS (Fargate), Lambda, S3, SQS/SNS, CloudFront, ECR, EFS, Secrets Manager, and RedshiftInfrastructure-as-code with AWS CDK (TypeScript)Docker and container-oriented technologiesCI / CD, specifically GitLab CIAutomated testing with pytest, Vitest, and PlaywrightIdentity and integration platforms such as Okta (SSO), Jira, and SlackQuality Assurance Mindset; Nice to have: familiarity with regulated environment#LI-DNIThe pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location.
