We do that by offering a diverse suite of payment and cashflow tools our customers need to run and grow their businesses, from a wide range of traditional card products, to working capital and supply chain financing, to new digital solutions that make it easy for our customers to manage their financial and payment needs.ResponsibilitiesSupervises and mentors Software Engineers and cross-functional team of colleagues in specific tasks or projects, fostering their professional growth and ensuring adherence to best practicesProvides mentorship and technical leadership to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvementLeads the entire lifecycle of software applications and systems, ensuring high-quality delivery from inception to deploymentDirects the technical aspects of projects, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliabilityReviews code for accuracy, quality, and adherence to best practices, offering constructive feedbackEstablishes and enforces coding standards, development methodologies, and best practices within the teamIdentifies and resolves performance bottlenecks, ensuring optimal application performanceFacilitates collaboration with cross-functional teams to support changes and implementations, ensuring alignment with organizational objectivesCollaborates and co-creates effectively with teams in product and the business to align technology initiatives with business objectivesLeads integration of AI-assisted development capabilities across the software development lifecycle and evaluates AI-enabled tools to improve engineering productivity and outcomesEstablishes best practices for AI-assisted software development within the team, including prompt design, output validation, testing approaches, governance expectations, and appropriate human accountability over outputsQualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and/or comparable experience; advanced degree preferredKnowledge of distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, NoSQL, and relational databasesKnowledge of the core tools used in the planning, analyzing, crafting, building, testing, configuring, and maintaining of assigned application(s)Advanced knowledge of AI-assisted development practices, prompt design techniques, output validation approaches, and governance considerations associated with AI-enabled software developmentKnowledge of evaluating AI tools for enterprise environmentsSoftware engineering and development experience or a related jobExpertise in application design, software development, and automated testingExperience in object-oriented design and coding with variety of languagesExperience in distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, and relational databasesExperience in Agile software development methodologies and practices such as Scrum/Kanban, iterations, user storiesExperience in automation testing and documentation (i.e. automated, functional, and performance)Experience scaling AI-enabled development practices across teamsExperience evaluating, selecting, and implementing AI-assisted development tools, including establishing validation, testing, security review, and governance practices for AI-generated outputsEmployment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions
