Traveling Pump Specialist
The Pump Specialist is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, overhaul, testing, and troubleshooting of pumps and related rotating equipment supporting nuclear and fossil power generation facilities. This role performs both field and shop-based mechanical work during planned outages, maintenance projects, equipment upgrades, and emergency response activities while maintaining compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical aptitude, experience working with rotating equipment, and a commitment to safety, procedural compliance, and quality workmanship in demanding industrial environments. Candidates with advanced experience, technical expertise, and leadership capabilities may be considered for a Senior Pump Specialist role.
Responsibilities include performing inspection, disassembly, cleaning, repair, overhaul, reassembly, and testing of centrifugal, positive displacement, vertical, and specialty pumps; diagnosing mechanical equipment issues and performing corrective maintenance activities; installing and replacing bearings, bushings, wear rings, shafts, sleeves, impellers, mechanical seals, packing, and related pump components; performing shaft alignment using precision alignment methods and equipment; conducting dimensional inspections using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other precision measuring instruments; assisting with equipment upgrades, modifications, and reliability improvement initiatives; supporting outage maintenance, equipment inspections, and emergency service activities at customer facilities; assisting with equipment removal, installation, alignment, and commissioning activities; reading and interpreting engineering drawings, technical manuals, maintenance procedures, and specifications; completing work orders, inspection reports, repair documentation, and maintenance records accurately and timely; participating in pre-job briefs, hazard assessments, and continuous improvement activities; maintaining housekeeping, foreign material exclusion (FME), and work area controls as required; following radiation protection requirements, industrial safety procedures, and plant operational standards; and maintaining compliance with all customer, regulatory, quality assurance, and site-specific requirements.
Experience/required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED required, technical school, vocational training, military mechanical training, or related education preferred, minimum three (3) years of experience in pump maintenance, rotating equipment repair, industrial maintenance, power generation, or related mechanical trades, experience with pump disassembly, repair, inspection, and reassembly, experience performing shaft alignment and precision measurements, ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, maintenance procedures, and work instructions, strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team environment, and a valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
