As the Director, Enterprise AI & Process Strategy you will lead the creation and implementation of our strategic advisory offerings within Customer Success. This is a high-impact, visionary leadership role tailored for an expert in IT strategy, enterprise architecture, and transformation Your primary mission will be to serve as a trusted advisor to senior executives at major corporations, guiding them on where and how to launch their enterprise AI journeys. You will design the strategic frameworks and value-assessment methodologies that help clients cut through the market hype, identify high-ROI initiatives, and understand how to weave AI reliably into their core business applications. By introducing Appian’s unique architectural advantages, you will show clients how to safely orchestrate autonomous AI agents, legacy systems, and human workflows to unlock hidden margins and insulate their business models from disruption.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Advisory & Disruption Consultation: Serve as the primary visionary guide for enterprise executive teams to answer critical, high-level structural questions such as: "Where and how should we prioritize our AI transformation journey to unlock the highest business value?" Develop Strategic AI Offerings: Build high-impact advisory services that help C-level executives cut through market noise, identify high-ROI automation candidates, and sequence their AI initiatives for maximum impact. Establish Process-First AI Methodologies: Define Appian’s core methodology for auditing complex enterprise workflows. Help clients understand that AI works best in a process—where it has the guardrails, real-time data fabric, and human-in-the-loop escalation paths needed to work safely. Architecture-Over-Infrastructure Strategy: Advise clients on building modern, scalable "AI at Scale" architectures and Data & Digital Platforms (DDP). Champion the deployment of an agile AI automation and Data Fabric layer that sits over fragmented, legacy systems of record, optimizing the technology stack without requiring massive, risky, or capital-intensive infrastructure overhauls. Strategic Automation Portfolio & Agent Orchestration: Partner with client executives to design a high-value, enterprise-wide portfolio approach to automation. Advise corporate boards on the strategic sequencing of digital capabilities—architecting frameworks that delineate when to leverage traditional deterministic automation (rules/bots) for high-volume, zero-margin-for-error tasks versus when to deploy autonomous AI agents for adaptive reasoning, complex compliance, and business model transformation. Lead High-Value AI Transformation Engagements: Direct large-scale client interventions to help legacy organizations modernize their operations. Guide enterprises to build a modern, AI-enabled experience around existing systems of record—orchestrating autonomous AI agents, legacy systems, and humans to achieve business goals without disrupting the core infrastructure. Scale an Elite Advisory Practice: Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performance global team of technology strategists. Cultivate a culture driven by intellectual curiosity, continuous learning, visual story-driven design, and an obsession with quantified business impact. Define Enterprise AI Roadmaps & Value Frameworks: Code and scale the proprietary frameworks, diagnostic tools, and value-realization models that Appian consultants use globally to audit client technology stacks, evaluate data readiness, identify high-ROI automation entry points, and sequence multi-year digital investments. Drive Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate matrix-wide with Geographic Heads, Product Management, Sales Leaders, and Marketing to position Appian’s strategic advisory offerings as an accelerator for large-scale enterprise software adoption, customer retention, and multi-million dollar deal origination.EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
15+ years of distinguished experience in strategy consulting, process transformation advisory, enterprise architecture advisory, or corporate technology transformation leadership. Proven Track Record of Strategic Impact: Demonstrated success selling, designing, and steering large-scale digital modernization or business model reinvention strategies that delivered quantified, multi-million dollar business outcomes. Advanced AI & Platform Literacy: High conceptual fluency in enterprise AI deployment challenges, including the orchestration of autonomous AI agents, prompt engineering boundaries, enterprise data fabrics, and the mitigation of legacy technical debt. Legacy Modernization Mastery: Deep knowledge of the structural, regulatory, and technical obstacles inherent to legacy IT environments, and a clear vision of how to layer modern digital platforms over existing systems of record without core disruption. Value Realization & Financial Modeling: Expert-level skill in developing economic business cases, financial models, and executive KPIs to measure and guarantee the ROI of complex technology transformations. The base salary range represents a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant work experience, qualifications, internal peer equity, and market and business conditions that exist when extending an offer. A discretionary bonus may be awarded in recognition of individual and company performance. In addition, Appian provides generous benefits offerings that include a 401(k) plan with company match, flexible time off, paid parental leave, medical, dental, and vision plans, life insurance, disability insurance, wellness programs, flexible spending accounts, health savings account contributions, an employee referral bonus program, and learning and development resources. Base Salary Range$192,000—$300,000 USD
